Horizon wasnt what I was expecting either, seemed to be more about the presenter and his relationship with Alcohol, but yes it was interesting.

    Goodnight all.:A

  • Just popping to say hi, I am not usually around this time of night, usually almost unconcious on sofa by now, but am pleased to report, another sober night.

Caught the last half of horizon programme and thought I would never in a million years take a pill that would give me those effects so why do I hit the bottle? I think the answer is because it is socially acceptable, but for me that is no longer the case as I know it takes control of me - but not tonight and I am feeling soooo good.

Hope everyone out there is achieving what they set out to do.

    Good night,

    MOS x

I thought the same - his eyes looked the same as a person who is off their head on something. Oh dear if he was, after all his reported problems with substances.

Not AF tonight - 2 glasses of ginger wine - no more after this one.

Back on the AF wagon tomorrow as I can't cover up the pain I feel with A. I caved in tonight as I feel so numb and believe me the A does not make it any better

    So true, such wise words.
That's the cunning, baffling and powerful thing about booze. It leads us to believe it is the only way out from the pain. However, there are very few problems in the world that are helped by a drink..........

Alcohol stopped working for me long before I stopped drinking, so I had the pain compounded with alcohol. That's not a good space to be in.
Now I know I have to face the pain/fear and approach it head on. That way I get to the other side quicker, and come out of it quicker.
If I delay, and try to offset/ignore/drink it away, I stay in the painful state for much longer.

Speaking for myself as an alcoholic, I had to feel lots of pain & fear to stop drinking. Alcoholics want to drink. Giving up drinking to an alcoholic is a deeply unpleasant and scary thought. Thus the pain had to be sufficient to realise that I truly had hit a horrid rock bottom and really really wanted to stop drinking, and most importantly WOULD DO ANYTHING TO STOP.

Then I could stop drinking and recover, and get really happy and content.
Before then I was in denial, and alcoholism tells alcoholics they haven't got a serious, life-threatening, family destroying problem. Thus they carry on drinking.

    Hi all

Good to have you back wbf and congratulations MOS and anyone else AF tonight. That includes me!!! so 7AF please fay (and £20.33)

Thread sounds a little happier tonight. YM you sound a little brighter, maybe the thought of your birthday on Saturday. Doing anything special? And well done GP, lardloss is coming on amazingly well.

Probably won't be AF tomorrow as out to lunch and then watch footie later so will more than likely take a night off. At the moment I'm up for the 72hrs but will commit nearer the time, great idea.

    Off to bed early tonight.

P.S. Where's jo and isn't it time that BHB's broadband was sorted?
  • Fell asleep watching the Horizon program, might watch the last 20 minutes on iplayer later.
