I have used Viking Direct on several occasions without problems. I think you may have just been very unlucky.

I too have used Viking lots of times without problems - and I'm a small, private buyer, spending on average about £30-£40 each time.

Never had a problem. But then again have never returned anything - but would not hesitate to do so, if necessary.

From what I hear, the vast majority of people have only good things to say about Viking. They treat us small private customers the same as their larger customers (giving us the same free gifts along the way).

I suspect you've just been unlucky. Which is unfortunate for you. But I really don't think it is typical.

No problems with Viking from when I was buying for a business or now when I buy privately.
There have been occasions when I ordered the wrong thing by accident and they always came out the next day to pick it up without any complaint or cost to me. Probably better writing them a letter explaining your problems - the person taking your call isn't responsible for anything going wrong and are just following what it says on their screen.
Recording telephone conversations without informing the other person straightaway is illegal as far as I know and most telephone advisers are told to terminate any calls that are being recorded (there was a long chat about it all a while back but I haven't got time to look for it)

Have always found Viking excellent

Ordered a few things from them on different occasions and never had any issues to speak of.

Once a free gift was damaged and not what I was expecting so after calling their freephone Customer Services number they said they were sorry, said to dispose of the damaged item and they would send me the proper free gift. The next day (!) the free gift turned up.

Good company with some very nice deals, just remember to shop around for prices just in case

I've used them for years with no problems.

mistakes do happen and once they sent me the wrong padded envelopes. When I called to let them know they told me not to return them but to keep them if i could use them or give to chartiy if not. Next day I had the correct ones.

Well, I've ordered twice from Viking...

First time the parcel went missing... maybe not their fault, but they took time to replace it (2 weeks). They refunded my card for the missing parcel (without me knowing), didn't re-charge it and then sent me a nasty letter 2 months later saying I owed them.

Just got my second order and 2 items are missing.
I ordered 3 reams of inkjet paper. According to their Sale catalogue, I should have got 2 free - only 1 free though if you order on the internet; apparently you've got to enter the code from the catalogue as 'catalogue and internet offers are different'. ??? ?

Told the operator I was dissapointed with the service; she wasn't interested, proceeded to try to sell me a fax machine and then a digital phone.. at least it was an 0800 number...

My verdict: Too much hastle and overpriced. Shame I can't find another stationery supplier online.

Normally Viking are very good. Their delivery contractors leave a lot to be desired though.

Once I ordered an expensive printer/copier (about £500). (It was not next day delivery, so I didn't know when it was coming) The delivery man left it in the alleyway behind my house. Luckily, I came back fairly quickly, but if I had been out that day, I can't believe it would still have been there. Even if it hadn't been stolen, it could have been wrecked by rain or dog wee. The box clearly showed what it was - including picture. I phoned Viking to complain, but they shrugged it off.

Another time, I stayed in expecting the delivery (next day from order). Nothing came by 6pm. Phoned Viking, they checked and said that it had not been despatched and that it would be tomorrow. I was not happy as I had taken the day off work and was working the next day so made arrangements with neighbours. At 9PM, the order arrived - driver said he had a busy day. So the Viking man had lied when he said it hadn't been despatched.

Now I work in an office. Viking delivery comes before 9am before anyone opens up. Often left in the street, in the back yard, randomly at neighbouring offices/shops. They always leave a note to say they've been but rarely say where the parcels are so it wastes time and effort trying to find it. Once they said that they'd been left at "no 34", but there isn't a no 34 on our road - we never did find it. Each time, I phone Viking, and they say that they'll tell the drivers, but it never gets any better.
