Feel sick just seen a dog being strangled - DO not read if upset easily pls!

What sort of dog was it?

There was no other people, children about in the street at the time.

The thing is once the dogs were apart the attacker dog wasnt growling or biting so it was totally unnescessary for them to do what they did!

My husband (he is at work but is fuming the police havent done anything) has phoned the police back and they are going to send a car out and have informed the RSPCA. Thing is the dogs body is not there now so dont know if they can do anything now.

The dog looked like and the size of a staffy but was prob a mix breed. it was not a pedigree i recognised and i am quite clued up on dogs.

My heart goes out to you, you did the right thing contacting the police,, I would def call the RSPCA, I wouldn't worry if you dont have the door number, you can describe the numbers nearby (hopefully), then say its x doors down, look for a distinctive factor, eg fence is green, the garden badly littered, the more extar info will help them.

reading this makes me so angry - poor dog... this should be taken seriously by the police as it is a criminal offence which could warrant a custodial sentence, especially as you witnessed it all - please do not be intimidated by them - is it a council property or privately owned/rented?

What a horrible thing to have witnessed .
I really hope the people who did this get the correct punishment by the police and RSPCA .
I know what incorrect puinshement I'd do , grrrrrrr

Thank you X I have given as much info as i can to RSPCA now and they said they will keep me anon but i had to give them my details or they couldnt do anything.

I am ok just feel sick. Am sitting here with my puppy cuddling him. Feel so bad i didnt do more at the time.

My husband is furious with the police i am still shocked i think. They live in a council house (which they were kicked out of then they returned when it was empty and set fire to it. The council them repaired it and done it all up and let them move back into it! :mad:)

good, glad you have rung the RSPCA - just googled - this chap was given a four month custodial sentence and a ban on keeping animals for strangling a dog - http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/1877781.0/?act=complaint&cid=839991

It is a serious criminal offence. Do they have children? research shows that in homes where animals are abused, very often the children are too.

You did all you could, they may have turned on you if you had tried to intervene. However, please dont be scared off from giving evidence against them. A ban on keeping dogs would be an achievement here, as I cannot imagine they are fit owners.

Just a thought - the dog's body will probably turn up quite soon - if they didnt take spades presumably they have not buried it - so it is more likely dumped in a dustbin, or skip, or those big bins you get behind shops and restaurants, or just chucked under a bush or in a canal... if the person was walking and carrying it, it is not likely to be far away.

If it is outdoors, it is likely other dogs will find it when out with their owners, if there is a likely skip or commercial bin nearby, maybe the rspca can check it... if the dog turns up, and they have your statement, then there is a good case against them... there may still be a good case even if the dogs body is not found.

Thank you. I have told the RSPCA and my husband told the police that the man headed with the dog in black sacks towards the park which is only a 2 min walk away so my guess is they have left the poor dog there so hopefully the police or RSPCA will find the body before anyone else does as i wopuld hate for a child or anybody to find the poor dead dog.
