ssp and benifits

Options
I have been off work sick for 13 weeks my company sick pay has now ran out. I may be off my work for another 26 weeks. My husband is not working at the moment. I will receive ssp from now on from my employer. I also receive £92.00 in working tax, child tax credits and child benefit. I have applied for a rent and coucil tax rebate. Is there anything I may be entitled to. I cant find any web site that is able to help me.

If there were no WTC being paid then potentially Income Support can be claimed.
  • Hi NASA thankyou for your reply. Do you know if my husband should be claiming jsa in hi own right.
  • Hi
I went down to my local job centre today. I was advised I would be better of claiming income support rather than working tax and child tax. After a 2 hour phone call I have now applied for income support. This seems strange to me as I thought you were only entiltled to income support if you did not work. Does anyone have information on income support will this then entiltle me to full rent and council tax rebate. I am so confused help please.

Income Support is available for those who are sick and IRO SSP if they need a top-up. So long as you are entitled to at least 10p of IS you should get your rent paid for without too much haggling with your LA.
  • Hi NASA thankyou very much for your help. This is a great site keep up the good work x
  • Hi anyone know why I would have to take an ssp1 form to the JC. This form seem to be for people not getting paid ssp from their employers. I am getting ssp from my employer. This income support thing is very confusing to me. wnyone know how long it takes them to work out your claim the letter I received this morning said i would be called into the JC for an interview within the next six weeks. I dont think i could survive if i had to wait another six weeks. Any advice greatly received. x

The interview will be a chat re benefits, but its worth ringing and asking if the claim will paid asap.

As SSP may be below the living entitlement then the income support will top you up, this then opens the door for council tax/housing benefit, eye tests, free dental.
Think the same office deal with council tax/hb.

Hope your feeling better soon. x

Know that one, the hardest thing is no-one really tells you what you can get, the best idea might to be book an appointment with the CAB for an informal chat, they may have some more suggestions.
Just remember you need to look after yourself. xx
