We had to put our dog down about 5 years ago. It devastated the family.

  • Hi Heddwen

So very sorry to hear about your dog. Sheels poem has moved me to tears. Over the years we have lost many pets, but their memory stays with you for ever. You know you did your best for him, and that is all you could do.

Despite the many suggestions on this thread, I do think pets help you to cope. You have to, they rely on you so much.

When we lost our last dog, at the beginning of December, 2001, we contemplated not having another pet, but you get used to having them around don't you, and it didn't take us too long to get another (2 in fact).

I am not suggesting you get 2 - 2 is definitely more than twice the work of 1, but a small pet, which doesn't cost very much to feed, I believe can help you get through.

There will be some who say I am being irresponsible, advocating this in your position, but believe me we have debts too, and sometimes it is only the unconditional love of the dogs which puts things in perspective.

I am sure you will always remember your dog, and the pleasure he gave you. I am also sure you will find a way out of your current problems. The people on this site are fantastic, nothing seems too much trouble to them to try to help with advice.

I have been following your story for some time, and reading all the fantastic help you have been getting.

    Keep your spirits up.

A MASSIVE THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR SUCH KINDNESS!

We will one day get another dog as the emptiness is too much. Just as soon as we have sorted out ourselves and finances. So determined more than ever to succeed so we can have another Dog.

Our cat is a godsend at the moment.

Will keep you all up to date as the events occur throught the week.

Hope youve had a great bank hol today? We built sandcastles on the beach! :-[

Have a good week all. :(
  • Glad to hear your weather was good enough for sandcastles on the beach - good old North East weather did us proud again - misty and damp!!!

Hi, Sorry to hear about your problems, especially the dog, yet another thing you didn't need to worry about!

Anyway, going back to a point made earlier about approaching businesses, what about approaching out of town business premises - you should find you wouldn't need to pay for parking there (as with the gyms) and if you choose a large business park you should find enough people wanting the service regularly, especially if you can produce simple posters etc.

Also, a site which has a lot of casual work on it (more for the London area, but also elsewhere & you can advertise on it) is http://www.gumtree.com. Furthermore, if you wanted to take someone on for your business you could maybe kill two birds with one stone, offer a live in position (in your spare room - a lot of Aussies / Kiwis etc take these) & so pay lower wages and ask for a small amount towards rent / bills too? Also, though this could be a double edged sword, if it didn't work they probably wouldn't be in the country for too long anyway for it to matter too much, but on the other hand....

    Just a thought
    TQ

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. :-[

Either get them to live in whereby rent & bills are taken out of wages OR live in and you ask for an amount towards rent & bills from the wages (national minimum natch) you are paying them

Trying to kill two birds with one stone - i.e. increasing business and decreasing outgoings in the house, if it works. Like I said before though, its kind of a temporary solution (depending on where you live) as a lot of Aussies / Kiwis don't stick around for long, or only have limited validity on their passport to do one job - which is what I meant by a double edged sword - i.e. if it doesn't work it may well be that they are moving on anyway, but, if it does, and you get a good worker, they may well be moving on too, thus losing your good worker & having to start again...!

    Hope that's clearer!
    TQ

PS No, I'm not into exploitation of workers, been there often enough!

    ???

Still no letter from either DMS or BOS re the mortgage.

Tried to call the bloke from DMS and just got his mobile answerphone so left a message asking him to call back (leave a message if out).

Called BOS and was told to call the Debt management dept direct as she couldnt get through when tried to transfer me. Spent 10 mins just ringing and ringing no one answering, on several occasions today.

Still none the wiser and desparate needing to know where we stand and needing to move foward with this situation.

    No progression is so frustrating!

All I can pray for is good positive news as Im not really looking foward to the reply, but obviously we need to know!

    Keep you all in touch.
