That was ME who suggested them! :D

My way of thinking is that if you love something, and know you're going to wear it a lot, then why not buy the best you can afford, instead of 20 cheap immitations?

For example, MY leggings cost me £120. Fine, its a lot of money. BUT, in spending £120 I know Im going to get my wear out of them. I could have bought 12 different pairs of £10 leggings, and then got them home, and found they bagged at the knee, faded, etc.... So instead of wasting my money on 'throwaway' goods, I save it up, and buy the best quality.

I know it was you, wasn't picking on you though! :D I can completely see your logic, and with most things I agree but I see leggings as little more than underwear and as such would be hard pressed to spend more than £30 on some. I'm not saying you are wrong for doing it, if you love them, and have the money who am I to disagree. I just meant for me when I looked :o at the link you put up and there were some for iirc £200+ on there I did actually feel sick! ha ha!

I just know what I'm like though and would prob shrink them in the wash or rip them on something, or wear holes in the knees from crawling around with DD! :D
  • Eeeeeeeew! White leggings! If you've got the body to be wearing white leggings, why taint it with white leggings. I'm not a fan of white trousers anyway (though some women look amazing in linen type whites) white tight leggings is just wrong, wrong, wrong...

    IMO :D

I'll have a look - I just find NL's idea of 'tall' a bit bizarre!

Well it is a bit odd - I'm 5' 10" and have very long legs. Some things are OK some are not whch is true across all shops. Long Tall Sally for example are about the only place that does trousers long enough for me but I find their sizing very erratic.

Whilst I would pay that and more for a suit or a "classic" piece, I consider leggings as falling into the "high fashion" category with a short shelf life. I wouldn't expect to be wearing them for more than a season or two so I wouldn't want to spend much on them.

Leggings and a long top.....how long should a long top be in relation to your knees?
I´m only short so a long top or tunic is often a dress for me!!!!
  • Leggings are amazing and I live in them - means I can buy lots of lovely dresses and (being 5ft4 I can buy) 'tall' tops and wear those with them too. I work in the HO of a clothing company with girls/ladies of a real mix of ages and styles and they all pull them off in their own way. As previously mentioned, the only (massive!!!) no-no is leggings-as-trousers.... eeeek!!!

Someone mentioned Topshop (around about £12-15 for ankle length/extra long) and these are my favourites. One pair that I wear frequently have lasted about a year and are now just beginning to get threadbare. I've bought Primark ones but they fall down all the time and the quality is poor. I guess how much you spend depends how much you plan on wearing them...

One thing I would say is that I'd only ever buy the 100% cotton ones - that way they're comfortable all year round - the polyester etc. ones can get a bit stuffy in summer!

It can be any darned length you feel looks good on you but if you're short it will make you look taller the shorter it is BUT IT MUST COVER THE CROTCH! And I'd get some right down to the ankle, those ones that cut your legs in half attract attention to the widest part of your calf as well as making you look shorter. For a whippet-like streamlined effect chose a top the same colour as the leggings so you're not cutting your body in half sortofthing.
  • I had been thinking about getting a pair of leggings but my sister put me off getting a pair by saying I'm too old to wear them!! She's 21 and I'm 34!!

Nonsence!! Im 44 and 5ft 2" and size 8 to 10. Its what you wear with them or not with them IYSWIM. I dont wear them with shoes, pumps or trainers only tucked into my knee length boots (just as you would skinny jeans). Covering up your bum and front is a must, I dont ever wear them with my tops going above my bottom and try to keep my tops, jumpers half way down my legs, with wide belts etc on the jumpers the accentuate my waist. You can also wear them with wrap dresses and knee length boots. Buy pairs with more of a percentage of lycra and cotton and thick ones. dont go for cheap pairs and a test i found was to put your hand inside the leg and see if you can see flesh from your hand showing through. If you can dont buy them. Im small so i try to match the top with the bottom colour in someway, ie brown the beige/brown top, black the same etc etc. I wore the chocolatre brown ones with a brown/ beige/black/white wrap dress and brown knee length boots and accessorised it with brown and black bangle and brown bag ( i could of done this with black to) and i got a wolf whistle from a much younger man. So i say go for it its not your age its the quality of them and what you put with them that counts.
  • well decided to bite the bullet and got a lovely pair from River Island that are high waisted and come down to my ankles.

Cost me 9.99 and I got a long top from Topshop to go with them.

Feeling pretty good with them teamed with the top and my rocky ankle boots.

thanks for all the advice however don't think I'll be looking at white leggings just yet ;)
