Leggings

So does anyone think this 'fashion fad' is going to be around for atleast the winter months?

Reason being I've throw out most of my clothes to charity shops and was looking to replace key items however all the tops I really like only seem to sit well over leggings!!

I not overly keen on leggings however (ego permitting) i do have the legs and bottom half to wear them but part of me just think 'ugh' how ugly are they when your wearing them on their own :rotfl:and think how can this be stylish

So what the view on leggings - staple item or they should of stay back in the 80's

help me decided if I should spend 15.00 on a good pair or not :)

Ay xx

If you are going to buy some, then buy the best you can afford - cheap leggings that show their lack of Lycra content after the first wash are a waste of anyone's money!

I have to admit to thinking about buying some nice thick ones after seeing a woman about my age in the supermarket last weekend....with flat leather boots (tick) long cardi (tick) over long t-shirt top (tick) and she looked good rather than "muttony" IYKWIM!!

Jury is still out here. I remember them the first time round and I really don't know if I want to do it again. I have bought a pair but they have yet to be seen in public.
  • I'll be wearing them with biker boots and a longish top to cover what's not good under there. Thick ones with lycra are a must: I've lost count of the numbers of ladies I've seen with visible cellulite going on underneath. It ain't a good look. Plus there are concerns about camel-toe as we've had a laugh discussing on here very recently
  • I LOVE leggings! :D Only ever wear them with dresses/skirts/long tunic tops though, never on their own. I dont think they look right being worn as trousers iyswim, they cling to your bum too much lol!
    'They only had one cow!'
  • thanks ladies. Any recommendations on where I should shop for them then?
  • I think leggings can be as 'classy' or 'trashy' as you make them. It's what you wear them with that makes all the difference IMO. I think it looks as if they are here to stay for the Autumn/ Winter at least, so I would prob buy another pair or two. Ironically the best leggings I have are £1.50 ones from Primark. They still have all their stretch left in them and just keep on going, much better than my expensive marks and sparks ones! Though Primarni is very hit and miss, and maybe I had a 'lucky batch' Lol! I have yet to find any that rival them and I have looked at many different price ranges! Though ommited to look at the hideously overpriced 'top of the range' £400 a pair leggings somebody suggested on the last thread about leggings! Seriously makes me feel a bit queasy thinking about that amount of money on any item of clothing but least of all leggings!
  • FOUR HUNDRED QUID for a pair of leggings? That must have been a typo. I doubt I'd pay more than a tenner for pair but then I'm a notorious cheapskate

Nope, they really were £400!

I have some £15 ones from Topshop which are great, I've had them nearly a year now and no sagging, no thread splitting and no fading. I also have some £1.50 Primark ones which are fine if I'm wearing a vest under my clothes that I can tuck into the leggings, otherwise they constantly fall down!

I hate to see people wear them with short tops, as if they're trousers in their own right. I only really wear mine with dresses, the shortest I got was an oversized mens shirt but felt uncomfortable with that, even.

I'd say buy some cheap ones first and see what you're comfortable with.
  • I think you'll find that the only women who do wear leggings with a short top as if they were trousers in their own right are the women who are the last ones on Earth who should. You know the ones I mean.

As lacy tights are a bit trendy at the moment (apparently) I was considering dragging out an old pair of black brocade leggings to combine the two looks. Bad idea?
  • Someone told me if you rememer the fashion the first time round, never do it again. But i disagree, ive bought a brown pair from Jane Norman £12, a black pair from tesco £5 and a grey pair from Primark £3. I do remember them 1st time round when i had the figure to wear a short top with them. But nooo not now, thats a no no. So im going to team them up with lovely floaty tops that just cover my bum to my thighs lol and am going to tuck them in a pair of knee length boots, (Brown, Black and Grey to match each set of leggings. I think this will make them look dressy IYKWIM. The tops i have are from per una at m&s and some jumpers and wide belts. Does that seem ok, opinions welcome
