I have a full appreciation of what the "right thing" is. I thought it was the right thing that they handed the wallet over in the first place - many wouldn't.
You don't know the OP or his parents and you don't know what they will do if they find a wallet in the future.
I find gratuitous "holier than thou" rent-a-posts on internet forums a tad lame!
I don't know the OP or their parents - I was responding to the post from Warehouse which specifically stated that because his/her parents had not been thanked the time outlined, they wouldn't bother handing in anything they found again. So in that sense, I went by Warehouse's information on the future which is probably as good as we are going to get in this discussion.
I'm not being holier than thou - you asked specifically why they shouldn't expect gratitude and I responded that in my opinion, doing the right thing shouldn't be dependent on people being grateful, but should be done in the spirit of trying to be nice and any gratitude should be an added bonus. That's how I treat incidents like this, and that's why I posted it - if you disagree (as you clearly do) then fine, but calling me 'lame' hasn't really added much to the debate so please understand if I don't bother to respond to you again.0 -
Put it this way, If I were to lose my wallett, the last thing I would expect is that it has been handed in, but were that the case, whoever they were, they can be sure of the grateful smile on my face, whether or not they can see it.
I would like to think that of finding a wallet and handing it in, my best reward is the thought of the smiles on their faces, for them getting it back.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I didn't really want a response from you in the first place, so no worries there!
My view is that Warehouse's comment was a throwaway one, such as many people would make when met with ungrateful people. I felt that it didn't warrant people joining the thread specifically to lecture on their paradigm of morality.
They handed the wallet in - well done to them - end of story.0
