  • My username originated thanks to a karaoke compere in 1998 who thought my name was funny and changed it to "ambience" to get a giggle from the crowd. I wasn't sure it was that funny, but I liked the sound of the word. Sadly I have little imagination for these things :o (apart from changing the "i" to a "y") and it's been a long term username/email address ever since!

  • Mine is the name of a crazy old lady in one of my all-time favorite books, Cold Comfort Farm.

I also named my son Seth after the strapping farmer's son in the same book!

I wanted something short and easy to type in.

Got a bit of a shock when I saw it was available!

    Sir.
  • I wanted just minty as it was a shortened version of my surname that my sister used when she was little, but it was taken so I added the moneysaver afterwards. A lot of people assume I'm a man after the bloke in eastenders, but I'm not so I use a girly avatar in the hope that people will realise!
  • I recently got hooked on the Dexter series. It was also fairly anonymous

There must be a lot of user names on this site which are no longer in use and blocking options for potential new users. I wonder if the Site Administrators could give one warning to anybody who hasn't posted for a period time, say 9 - 12 months, and then delete their account if it's no longer in use. when you see how many people have now registered on this site, user names which are no longer available are increasingly going to become a problem
  • I have year round hayfever was always sneezing at work so was called popoff from rent-a-ghost kids prog oooohhh now showing my age.
  • My lovely OH (bless him) has been nosing over my shoulder when I'm using MSE (grrrrrrr is nothing sacred).
Saying stuff like'You should book mark this site it looks really useful'
Errr. ok (But I already have). He's had a look through the forums at the sensible stuff and says he will join shortly.
Then he came away with the little gem. 'I wonder how everyone chose their user names'.

Care to elaborate anyone, (pretty please lol)

I was fairly active on some economics / house price forums where a bear vs. bull stance (as in stock markets) is appropriate - I sometimes got nicknamed Barney due to a resemblence to the Flintstone's neighbours and I'm the right age to have been subjected to 1970's weird european cartoons imported to the BBC..... http://www.thechestnut.com/barnaby.htm
  • Somewhat related to my name, but then people were assuming I was a guy, so I added the girl bit, tend to use it for far too many things.
