VENT: Stop knocking on my door and disturbing me!

What's with the increase in people knocking on doors to sell something?
Last night, I was in the middle of some sewing and heard a knock on my front door.
As I was expecting my Avon order I went downstairs only to find a guy with a SCOPE tabard on - asking if I could spare a small amount per month.
Now, I donate by DD to a number of charities chosen specifically because they mean something to me personally.
I don't have the cash to donate to every charity that rattles a tin under my nose as I'm leaving a supermarket or accosts me in the street- this type of 'encouragement' to donate really hacks me off anyway.
This morning, we've had 2 knocks - 1 to ask if we wanted our car washing, the other to ask if we wanted the trees in our front garden lopped.
I appreciate that times are hard, but for heaven's sake - leave me alone.
All it needs to tip me over the edge is a vist from the God Squad or somebody asking if we need double glazing/new soffits & fascias.
Ok, rant over.

I actually love it when they turn up at my door. I invite them in, offer them a coffee and begin to rip their spiel to pieces, they can't get out of the door quick enough...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Never trust anybody who knocks on your door asking for money or work0

we keep getting the young offenders scheme lads with their licenses popping round, i have to keep saying that i've lost my keys and can't open the door
my fave thing to do to the God Squad, (JW) is to ask them why you can't have blood transfusions? because if everything comes from god then surely it was his idea and how can they go against him like that????they run away very quickly!
Nonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

I genuinely think its down to the recession.
Last nights Dispatches on C4 about middle class unemployment featured a guy who had graduated from uni, only to find the only job he could get was collecting door to door for a charity.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. my friend encountered a JW on the bus who decided to give converting him a try. After a moment, my friend says 'so if God loves all His children, and forgives the sinners who repent and you can repent at any time and be forgiven, even on judgement day I think I'll wait until I'm dead, but thanks anyway!'
Apparently the JW stopped talking after that!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

As you can see from my user name, this is also my all-time-hate !
Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
I have to sleep during the afternoon, and I get woke up several times a week. I have this notice printed on pink paper stuck to my front door.---
PLEASE - DO NOT KNOCK
AT THIS DOOR UNLESS YOU
ARE INVITED and EXPECTED.
NO utility sales/advice.
NO charity collectors, bogus or real.
NO home improvement sales.
NO religion.
Thank you.
It makes very little difference. I have even removed the batteries from my door bell. The worst in my area are RSPCA and various charity collectors, Safestyle, Talk Talk, and the local church who come round with small booklets but insist on giving them to you personally.
Of course, having the notice and knowing that they have totally disregarded it just makes my blood boil even more. Safestyle have the ready made answer that they are dyslexic or can't read and write - and to be honest it is best not to argue with them because they will openly make threats of violence.
For the charities, if I see them in the area I look up on the Internet what the charity directors etc pay themselves - usually £millions. With the RSPCA I saw they were spending £1.8 million a year on door to door collecting, which is disgusting. Of course they aren't exactly collecting, they are insisting you give £2 or £3 a month via direct debit. Then if you sign up, they harass you with phone calls to increase the amount to £10 a month.
Another thing to be wary of is the bogus-official door knockers. My 82 year old mother was beaten and robbed by one. She picked him out on id photos but nothing was done as he lives on a gypsy camp. Oh sorry - that is racist ! (apparently).
Door knocking should be totally banned to protect pensioners.Companies I have had problems with -
Time; Evesham; Gordon Lamb; N.Power; Safestyle; Lycos; Daum; Consumer Voice/CCB Fastmap; BT; Chard, Homeserve (plumbing insurance that solves your emergency but leaves you with the initial problem); Sony.0 -
So your saying all door knockers attack pensioners? Or maybe they just need to ask for ID BEFORE opeing the door *thumbs up*0
