Long time no see - Bankrupt 05/05/09

Well peeps just thought I'd drop in and let you know how I got on... Excellent is the word - cleared £59000 of debt for £500 up front and a IPA of £230 a month for next 3 years... Got to keep my Vespa, all my crap I'd bought such as big telly's etc...

OR in Nottingham are excellent - was up front about what I owned and they didn't want it - set up IPA for £230 then I got a new job - went from £20000 a year to £24850, told them, but because I'd always been up front and did not argue with the IPA, they said to leave payments as is

More than the debt being cancelled (as such) the relief of not having some Indian call centre threatening court, bailiffs and calling 20 times a day etc is a weight off my shoulders - though the phone company Hutchinson 3G are still trying to make me pay, it makes me giggle when they threaten court action - crack on say I for I have the power of a bit of paper that will scupper your County Court action forthwith - or, one of my favourites from Hutchinson 3G - not paying may affect your credit - Haaaaaa Haaaaaa, too late matey....

I feel a new man, I have learned my lesson and credit is not for me - no more credit cards at the drop of a hat, no more bank loans in 24 hours, no more increased overdrafts - cash is great, if you can't afford it, save up for a couple of months -

You have been pre vetted for XXXX credit card - I don't think so.....

If you have no assets (like me) I'd advise you to go down this path - be honest in the forms (well, to a point, I mean, don't be too honest), bite the bullet with the OR and go for the IPA without arguing if it's fair (even in my old job they left me £230 a month after my £180 shopping, £60 razors and after shave, £60 for a holiday, £100 pet food, £320 car related etc...) and DO NOT TOP YOURSELF (seriously, I did contemplate that last year and sooooooo glad I decided to scrape the cash together and take the plunge - I was ashamed of being bankrupt at first, now I shout it from the tree tops - I'm FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!)

Add to all this the letter I got last Tuesday - fill this in and return it in 14 days and we will request you be discharged early from bankruptcy - what can I say chaps and Chappettes, result or what?????

Read my posts, I was scared sh*tless before I went, I haven't been back on in months as the new job keeps me late (drug worker - bl@@dy NHS hours and Swine Flu) daunting at court (incase you get a dig from the judge) OR phone interview worse in imagination than actually was and IPA a dream - considering I was paying £900 a month out - £230 a result

Hope this helps - I'm as happy as happy can be.....:rotfl:

well done..sounds vey much like my situation...[no good claiming £60 per month for razors, then getting a face-to-face interview with OR, sporting a very full beard......]

although I didn't do the stress...least, not last year..was so relieved to discover they'd shut Newgate Debtors' Prison years ago!
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • Trolls will be Trolls - until they put us back in jail, on a chain gang or publicly humiliate us for making mistakes they will never be happy

It was my own fault, however, as the money started draining the banks/cards were more than happy to chuck money at me, I used it to bail myself out of the last load of credit they gave me and on ad infinatum

I say to Trolls - Sub Prime Mortgages - who was at fault? 125% mortgages? Increasing credit card debt? Increased acceptance for non secured loans? who supplied the bullets - big banks looking for big money by lending to us plebs money - heyyyyyyy, buy it now, nevermind you can pay it back monthly.. ohhhhh, you missed a payment, lets heap some charges on - ohhh look, you can't make next months 'cos by the time you paid the charges you ran out of money - here, have another set of charges - tell you what, lets take you to court and sell yer house

We should only post how humiliated we are, how depressed we are or how absolutely sorry we are for getting into a financial mess - that's what Trolls want - Express readers one and all - gone bankrupt? a good birching in the town square is what you need....

Basically, Trolls can say what they want, they won't be phoning me 20 times a day and trying to bully, lie and harrass me into paying what I can't afford - if they get off on it - crack on - better they concentrate on me rather than someone who might not be able to take the stress of being harranged... doesn't really bother me - I got a result and I'm chuffed

Gaz the reason NM mentioned your wording and trolls, was not cause they can hurt/bother you but stop and think for a moment the damage they do to this forum. What you have put in your first thread is a red flg to the DT forum and if you had spent some time on here recently you would see what damage they have done. I second NM post. Glad things worked out for you but i too think some of that post could have got your point across without the need of troll baiting.....which is what it looked like to me.

    Good luck in the future.Dx

and for what its worth? I totally agree with dalip & NM....and its not you left to try & sort the aftermath of a troll attack although with the attitude you post with I very much doubt you care less what happens here you've had support & help so finger in the air time now.....and you wonder why people here see all bankrupts as scum of the earth with posts like yours

oh & dont hold your breath for any results on early discharge......NEVER a guarantee

Your post gives people like me a bad name. Some of us do feel responsible for our debt - yes, ok, it was made available but we're not children for goodness sake. I feel heartily ashamed of myself and rightly so. There are others on this forum who have gone BR through redundancy, divorce etc etc. Whilst I did lose a great deal of work through the current recession (self employed) I had also lived beyond my means so that when the going got tough I couldn't continue. I think I deserve to feel responsible for living beyond my means. Ok - I have drawn a line under it now but I have learnt so much and will NEVER be in this sort of situation again.

I certainly wouldn't be as quick to rejoice in my situation.
  • i know what you mean and do feel exactly the same as you- we aren't children. I interpreted the OP's attitude as that he has moved past the shame and guilt and "learned his lesson" - what is the point of carrying on beating himself up about it - learn from it and move forward with life!

true....BUT there is a way of posting NOT like this....guarantee the post will either be locked or deleted before the day ends if someone from DT sees this
