..... 'take a job any job'. However that also looks like it might be working out, more news to follow....

And no sneaking that phrase in under cover of you being happy (and squiffy!).... we all want more details when it happens!

Once things are finalised, yes more details will come;)

Well, last few days have been cool, fun, but EXHAUSTING!!! Especially the TERRIBLE coach journey which resulted in one family being removed from the coach at Birmingham. And no, it wasn't the kids causing trouble, it was shouting, swearing, screeching adults who didn't think the 'no alcohol on the coach' rule applied to them, and that smoking a joint didn't count as smoking! Not good. So today i am pottering, catching up on some DVDs before LoveFilm charge me for them, and filling in some of my job seekers forms.

This evening, I am going to make stew with chunky croutons from 'whoopsied' veg, soy mince and Onion Bisto (also whoopsied) and the stale bread rolls we didn't finish last weekend.

This is a quote foqm St Teresa of Avila, the 16th century foundress of the order I have just left. While she was founding her convents everything that could possibly go wrong did, and then some. Her writing style is remarkably funny if you read it, and is full of such comments.

Yep - I know the quote - I didnt know who it came from though. I suspect St Teresa was quite a character - but then....I also suspect you/your Prioress and our fellow Forumite (ie the one whose hospitality you have just been enjoying) are also....says she - meaning in the best possible sense...:D.

Obviously her book will have been written in the "language of the day" - so might be a bit "impenetrable" to 21st century minds - with the British language having changed so much over the last few centuries - but, as a matter of interest, what is the title of her book?

She wrote several. Her 'Life', which I think is the hardest to read, 'The Way of Perfection' which was pretty much a handbook for her nuns, and 'Foundations', the story of the other convents she founded which is probably the funniest. Also other shorter works, letters, poems etc.

I hate this time of day. Its too early to go to bed but I don't want to be up, and sheer willpower is stopping me calling the convent and begging to go home.

Well - we dont know what happened that you are out of the convent (apart possibly from the one of us whose hospitality you have just been enjoying). So - no idea what the chances are/timescale would be of you going back there.....I've got one or two ideas in my mind personally of what I think here - but 'tis maybe not for us to know anyways...

Any major change in Life is disruptive/disorientating/etc - been there/done that....

Give yourself a bit of time and patience Faith and "see how things settle" in your new life.

I've never so much as "poked my nose in the door" of a nunnery and all I even know of Catholic churches is what I've noticed on doing some "sightseeing" round foreign ones whilst on holiday - so what do I know? - but I'm hazarding a guess that maybe the single biggest difference now is that you dont have an established routine of service and Services - life is a LOT more "haphazard" than it was. Being in a society that is secular and where one spots examples of immoral/thoughtless/irresponsible conduct on a daily basis cant be easy either - THAT I do know about.

Once you have established a "routine" of sorts in your new life and know for sure where you are living/what work you are doing/what your income situation is then you will feel a lot more "settled". Give it time Faith...give it time...

I "think" I know why you are "out with us" I wouldnt be surprised if the Prioress is expecting that phonecall you are wondering about making - but give us all a chance Faith...give yourself a chance...(and I have the feeling that that is exactly what the Prioress would say to you as well....if in very different "language" to my secular phraseology).

I hope I'm not "stepping outa line" here - but I've been thinking on further and my personal impression is that your family are opposed/bitterly opposed to the idea of a daughter of theirs being a nun and that that makes you feel "torn" to some extent about it. They may have thought initially "We hate the idea - but it wont last for long and then she'll be back" and they sat down latterly and realised that that hadnt happened and are trying to influence events - maybe not unconnected to them still cherishing hopes of having grandchildren (I dont know whether they have any already from any brothers/sisters you have?).

I can understand and sympathise with them if this IS how they feel. I am well aware myself that, if I had decided to have children (an option I didnt wish to take personally) that I would have had VERY strong opinions about what life choices they ultimately made. I held those VERY strong opinions about what I would have expected from them for many years - but ultimately realised that I would have had to "shut up and accept it if they had decided to follow a manual job for instance" and would have had to accept that as long as they were happy and honest then that would have been the main thing. So I think I might have some idea where your parents might be coming from - IF that IS how they are thinking....

On the other hand - this is your life and you must live it whichever way you yourself decide - whether that be in or out of a nunnery. It is your choice - and only your choice. Whilst understanding how they feel - I think they should stand back and accept whatever you decide and learn to live with it - whichever way it goes.

My feeling - again - I hope I'm not "stepping outa line" here is that the Prioress has seen this happening before to other people and has taken the wise decision to send you back into the Everyday World for a while - knowing things could go either way - you might stay out here with us/you might choose to go back in - but she is putting you in the best position to decide for yourself and will accept whatever decision you make and want the best for you personally.

I am pretty sure she would agree with me to give this more time - from where I'm standing - I dont have any idea myself what you will eventually decide to do. The only thing I DO know is that I think you will be an asset in whatever environment you ultimately choose.

Monday, Job Centre. Horrible! Still have no intention of giving me any money.

    Hi Faith,

I'm glad to hear that you have had someone taking care of you. :)

As the thread has now gone way off the topic of Old Style I've moved it over to the benefits board to see if you can get some help from the experts there.
