Believe me, the flat aint great. In fairness if it was being let, as it was 2 weeks ago it would have been let "unfurnished" . In any case this is all budgeted for out of the lodgers income so no biggie. Hopefully it will be collected tomorrow if they call me urgently as I asked

But your friend is your lodger & renting the room, so all you should worry about is making sure there is a bed/wardrobe/cupboard in their room. Flats are let unfurnished....

Just Call them and ask them to collect ASAP, as it was sent in error after you had told them you did not want the furniture.
    see what they say..

I'd bargain with them if you don't want to keep it. Tell them for all the trouble and hassle it's caused you and for your honesty in telling them and helping sort the problem out, a gift voucher wouldn't go astray :D

Why don't you say to Woolies that you will pay them an amount (less than LX) for the furniture as it's now delivered and they would have to pay haulage to get it back. Then cancel LX!

Mslondon I think you're being a bit harsh. Did you read the original thread? lynzpower budgeted, went through all the options and shopped around until she was blue in the face to get the best deal for this furniture. After all, if you were paying 500 per month to be a lodger you wouldn't want to live somewhere crap, so lynzpower wants to make sure she keeps paying 500 a month and doesn't leave!

We've already been through all this with the garden furniture and it was decided by democratic decision that you ought to buy it. Come on, you know as well as I do with English weather, the brollies are out today but come Saturday we could all be sweltering in our bikinis. (Not that I would wear one of course). If I could get away with something to get out of debt then I would, but its not worth it if youre likely to be caught. Sometimes, too you have to make purchases in spite of debt, because they can help you to reach your ultimate goal. So you are justified inbuying your garden stuff to please your lodger so she stays with you.

    Thanks to all repliers

Incidentally, as promised Woolworths phoned me. The girl on the phone was lovely, she started by saying, that she knew that the refund that she gave me was a fiver short for the delivery, she will add it to my account now. I said, but you do know its delivered ( i wrote it in the email) she was like what? Cant see that on the system, the whole thing is cancelled apart from the fiver we owe you. Im like, yeah, you delivered it today, TBH I did toy with not telling you TBH and keeping it. She laughed and said " well you should have, theres no way of finding it on our system, you could have got away with that one". I asked when they would be able to collect, couldnt give me a date. I jokingly said, well, for being so honest maybe you should let me keep it, she went Hmmm, really not sure if or when we are going to be able to collect it.

We shall see. If its still here in a month, im keeping it.

Good karma though, I did the right thing.

I am reasonably sure that if you receive un-solicited goods then you dont have to pay for them, just give them the option to collect by a particular date. I dont think you have to notify them even. Its not theft.

I would pander to your lodger a bit, you dont want to lose £6000 per year, tax free (so the equivalent to a £9k pay rise), for the sake of a couple of hundred £ tarting the place up a bit.
