Struggling to choose between Optimax and Optical express any advice?

    Hi

I'm trying to decide between Optical Express and Optimax. I've had a consultation with OE on monday and they agreed to bring price down to £2295 to match a competitors quote LASIK Wavefront.

Going to see Optimax tomorrow. My prescription is not too bad -1.75 in one eye and -1.25 in the other. Optimax has already agreed to do the LASIK wavefront for £1995 as per their latest offer.

I did like OE and nearly signed up there and then but was told at last minute that the surgery was being done in Harley Street and not Westfield were my consultation was. I was upset as I felt that they had been so nice to me and spent most of the time just warming me up without telling me everything. So i got cold feet and refused to sign up.

Wanted to ask if anyone can send me a voucher for money off at Optimax? Not sure if they will take it with the price they already quoted me but worth i try I think!

Also can anyone recommend Optimax Finchley Road?

    Thanks

Hi, I had mine done at Optical Express a year ago, just before I went on holiday as I didn't fancy losing yet another pair of expensive prescription sunglasses in the ocean!

I actually didn't mind the look of my glasses...geek chic...but they weren't very practical for outdoor activites esp. hols and as I had astigmatism in both eyes, daily lenses weren't great - I couldn't see as well as with glasses.

I had a fairly mild prescription -1.25and +0.75 or something like that, but the astigmatism was quite high, 3.0 I think?

Apart from unleashing my baggy eyes to the world, it's been the best thing ever! I have had no issues whatsoever, no dry eyes or anything! I can see the same if not better than with my glasses, definitely miles better than with my contact lenses.

Got it done at Silverburn, nr Glasgow at Optical Express. Cost was about £2400-ish. The actual surgery was completely painless and quick, a few minutes each eye, but only about 20 seconds for the actual laser bit. Random fact: the laser is cold, so no burning.

Once the drops wore off it wasn't so painless - about half an hour after I left the shop my eyes felt scratchy (like shampoo and hairspray in your eyes) and I couldn't stand the light, not the most pleasant thing I've ever experienced lol Bearable pain - like the anaesthetic wearing off after a visit to the dentist!

Was absolutely fine after a few hours sleep though and I almost went to the movies that night - I could see perfect, but thought better of it :o

Can't say much about the aftercare, I only went back twice (the day after and a month after), they do look after you for life, but as I have had no problems, I haven't went back. But the staff were all friendly and professional enough each time I was there.

I'd defo say go for it! It was brilliant for hols esp. swimming in the ocean...and actually seeing where I was going – and I bought loads of cheap sunglasses just because I could lol

Go for it - and good luck!

    Good suggestion thank you
  • Optimax have a current 50% offer on July 2013, but all is not always what it seems as the price quoted at £2295 per eye(£4590 the bill for pair of eyes) is based on LAST years price between July and Dec, as the current price has dropped down to £1885 per eye ( it will now cos you £3770 the bill for the pair of eyes ).

You THINK you are getting it cheaper and yes you will save £ not half £2295 though but based on 2013 price you will save £820 , always read the smallprint (well use your reading glasses LOL!)

Not very happy with the above named company, I had laser eye surgery about four years ago, my right eye is terrible now, I emailed them about it got no response, then I telephoned and was told my optician would have to refer me, they didnt want an Opticians referal when I was shelling out Four thousand pounds:eek:

  • sam go see your regular optician, mention your eye problem and get the referral letter, cos after 4 years your eyes may have changed naturally with age or you could have an underling eye condition totally unrelated to the laser treatment you had in 2009, so if you had 4 years of normal vision I wouldnt ignore new symptoms, ultralase are still trading and as their website states "All treatments still include a lifetime care guarantee and at Ultralase, all our laser eye surgeons in Britain are certified by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists" worth going and getting a check up whatever it is that you are experiencing maybe needs looked at asap, four thousand quid yikes, a lot of money!

  • Hey guys

Am considering laser eye surgery. Have had a consultation with Optical Express and been quoted £1895 an eye. They have offered me 10% discount so total cost is £3411.
They are desperate for my business and have offered 30 months interest free.

I did call Ultralase to book an appointment with them, but was really put off by their policies (e.g. needing a credit card to book the 'free' consultation).

I just wondered if anyone had referral vouchers for Optical Express or any other tips for getting the cost down?

Its a really tough decision, as I'd spend the same amount (at current rate of spending, not factoring in inflation) in about 15 years, so its worth my while doing it. It's just whether I can afford to squeeze 15 years of small monthly payments for lenses into one massive payment for surgery.

    Cheers
