Laser Eye Surgery Cost Cutting Tips

There are Ebay sellers who are selling their "recommend a friend" type discounts.
There's one for Optical Express - I think it's £500 off, and one for Ultralase which is a 10% discount.0 -
Hey all!
I'm -12 and -14
I can't remember what it was like to do anything at all without glasses or contacts lol.
About to Google companies now, from the thread Optial Express or Optimax seems the most popular. Does anyone know someone with similar short sight like mine who went for a particular company?
Thanks in advance :money:0 -
I really need some advice on prices. I went for my consultation with Optical Express around 4 months ago and Ultralase 2 months ago. Since this time both have been contacting me with 'special offers'. Both have quoted me for LASIK Intralse and Wavefront. Optical Express have quoted me, after much negotiation a price of £2050. This is based on treatment on a Wednesday/Thursday generally, but didn't confirm a date, they also were sketchy on the details. Today Ultralase have rung me with the same offer they offered me in May and won't budge which is £2500 who can fit me in this Saturday and gave me all the statistical blurg and 'lifetime guarantee'. They also sent me details of the surgeon and encouraged me to do the research on him - Joseph Karthikappallil.
My prescription is -1.75 in each eye and I have 'large pupils' so need wavefront in each eye so it's not that bad, but both these prices seem quite expensive to me and I'm just not sure. Is Ultralase really worth the extra £500?
Any advice would be welcome.0 -
Just to say that this was the LASIK Ultra Plus with Wavefront.0

Optimax are offering their fixed price again:
£2186, pay nothing until 2013 + 24months interest free for Intralase Wavefront LASIK.0 -
I was planning to do laser surgery for long time and I'm having -3 both eyes.
Going through MSE and other forums, it seems the cost is around 2K.
Two queries
1. I'm having small eyes (deep ones as well). Anyone know if LASEK is suited for people like me?
2. Which clinic you recommend in South-East for surgery?
3. I've registered to OE and I'm getting lot of offer letters around £2000. Is the £500 vouchers be added on top of that thus reducing cost to £1500?
4. What time of the year is better to do surgery? (heard that winter is good as less light and more rest for eye)0 -
hi Claribel,
I just came across your message. I do know that with laser eye surgery you will need to have stopped breast feeding for 3 months before a clinic would consider treating for laser eye surgery. This is because your hormones levels will still be up and down and this can have an effect on the eyes.
I hope that has been helpful. Oh and yes I have had laser eye surgery myself.0 -
Hi 7ten,
"The most popular clinics you have mentioned will probably not be able to offer you laser eye surgery as they are set up to only treat more mild prescriptions. You will need to look at more specialist clinics that have more advanced laser technology like Alcon Wavelight. I think you will need to look carefully to find a clinic that can offer you treatment."0 -
Hi Joaniemerc
If you go online you will find better offers than ebay - for instance, "Accuvision are offering laser eye surgery, all treatments for £700 per eye - my friend got the deal and she is ecstatic with her vision."0
