    Hi all,

My prescription is -1.5 in both eyes. What price should I expect from Optical Express or Optimax?

    Thanks!

Just got back from OE consult, to have Wavefront Intralase would cost me £2,800! I didnt think it would be that much, will now go to Optimax to see what they quote. Ideally though would prefer to get treatment done with OE.Anyone been to Accuvision?

This might put people off Lasik and go for Lasek instead....

  • I merrily went along for my LASIK surgery at OE, only to be told that actually I could only have LASEK. I couldn't go ahead because I couldn't take a week off work just like that.

Since then I've been to Optimax (they say LASEK only) and Ultralase (probably LASEK, may do intra-lasik).

I have come around to the idea of LASEK somewhat, but the recovery sounds grim. I'm going to see Accuvision and Focus too, to see what they recommend. Also I want to wait for a decent special offer as I'm starting to think about Wavefront as my night vision isn't great - it's incredibly hard to get an idea of whether this will actually benefit you or not though, seeing as everyone wants to 'upsell' it!
  • Well OE just called me - after discounts they'll now do LASEK with Wavefront for a £1830 - does that seem a good deal? I could be seeing by next week if I go for it, which is very tempting...

I have just had consult with Optimax now and they have said for Lasik Intralase Wavefront will be 2195. Hoping can get it under £2000 with them. Seem to be more knowledgeable than the lady i saw at OE.

There are a couple of clinics based in London Advanced Vision Care and Focus Laser Vision which I will now look to go to.

Jay-C - why would that site above all others put you off?
I've had Intralase Wavefront with OE back in August and aside from a few headaches adjusting to my near perfect vision (from -1.75 in left to 0 and -2.25 in right to -.25) I've not looked back.
Ok, so its a bit gory if you're squeemish about eyes, but by the next morning I had 6/6 in both eyes.

Anyone going to Optical Express, I received £150 off vouchers just in the post today.
Treatment must be booked by 29th Feb and carried out by 15th March.
    PM if interested!!

Well if you read it highlights the potential dangers of LASIK as opposed to LASEK and EPI-LASIK!

I had a consultation this week and while I initially booked it on line because their deal was £2195, I got a couple of emails directly from the clinic, the same treament IK with wavefront for £1995 + 18 months interest free

I had Lasik with Wavefront surgery last Thursday. Cost was eventually (after several negotiations) reduced to £2650 on 10 months interest free credit (prescription of -4.50). Very pleased with results so far - even though I have had a bit of a inflammation in one eye so having to put in lots of drops. Good follow up check next day and 2 days later then again booked for 4 days time.
Things I wasn't quite aware of...
    1. Can't wear any eye make up for 1 week (that's serious when you wear tons of eye make up and won't be seen out without any!)
    2. Suggested you wear sun glasses for a week - to be honest this is helping my eyes adjust - even though I feel a bit of an idiot when out shopping.
    3. You need to wear night goggles (which they give you) for a week so you don't rub your eyes inadvertently when you're asleep. These are real passion killers - or as my son told me... they look like the sort of goggles you sometimes see dogs wearing!
    4. You can feel a bit sick after the surgery - I didn't realise this so wasn't prepared with sick bags for in the car. Fortunately I wasn't sick!
    5. You can go into shock after the surgery and possibly faint. This happens rarely but it does and can happen... so just be aware of it.
Pleased I went ahead. Hope this helps.
