Optimax are much better , plus they are charging half that price for top of the range treatment lasik wavefront femtosecond laser cut no blade!! Expect to pay no more than £2300! and interest free credit also if liked they charged your debit card £10 to reserve an appointment this is payable back or deducted from your treatment. It IS free to consult them but it at least ensures no timewasters. They keep the tenner if you dont show up of course.

    Hello,

I hope you can offer some advice...

I have been wearing glasses for about two years now. My prescription for glasses is:

    SPH

    Right:+1.25 Left:+0.75

    CYL

    Right:-3.25 Left:-0.25

    AXIS

    Right: 57 Left: 135

I am 33 years old and want your advice about lazer surgery.

I still struggle with glasses, I don't think I suit them, hassle with them slipping, Always dirty etc. I also clay pigeon shoot and the glasses always feel like they are in the way and limit my view.

I a considering lazer eye surgery and visited a local surgeon who has offered to carry out either LASIK or Lasek.

My question is... With the prescription above would you proceed? Without glasses I can see OK with both eyes open, I guess my left eye compensates for my right. If I close my left I cannot see much at all clearly. As far as shooting goes, without glasses I cannot hit a thing!

Would you go the laser route?

    Many thanks
  • You have a very low prescription one eye is short sighted one is long, but the only people who can 100% advise you are the actual ophthalmologists (eye doctors) at optimax

It is essential they see you one to one, that is why they do a thorough eye exam and test your pupil dilation size ,as well as other factors about your general health ,before they can give you the green light.

    Thanks for your reply.

I went to my local optimax centre for a consultation, they have carried out a number of tests and have stated I am suitable for either LASIK or LASEK. They won't know which of the two the surgeon will prefer to carry out as he is currently off on holiday for a few days, they are going to call me nice he has confirmed his preference. I think one if the tests was tricky to interpret, but one of the two procedures will certainly be OK.

I don't think i want to proceed if they will only do LASEK, as I think the recovery is much more painful and longer. I.e. a week off work rather than two days with LASIK.

They have said only one eye really needs it, the right eye with the bad astigmatism, so they get bonus points in my opinion for being upfront and honest, not trying to push me into getting both done.

I am just not sure if my prescription really justifies going for a surgical procedure.... Am I better of waiting for a few years and have it if my sight gets worse? Can long distance vision get worse, or is it mainly reading sight that gets worse with age? I don't like wearing glasses, I just don't feel confident in them. Unfortunately my astigmatism is outside the tolerances for daily contact leanest, so I think surgery may be the best option.
  • I have a consultation booked with Optimax Liverpool tomorrow - just reading through some of the forums on here about money off vouchers and so on ....does anyone have any they that they would be willing to share (bit last minute I know!) Cheers :-)
  • I have now been signed off no more follow ups, I had my surgery 12 weeks ago and am fully healed zero problems whatsoever came up , straightforward and painless. I still put the occasional refresh drop in a couple of times a day just cos this is what they recommend.

My left eye is super strong, I can easily read all the optician board letters the smallest size , that is 2 below 20/20, just 3 mth ago I needed glasses to read even the HUGE bold ones at the top.

My right eye isnt quite as strong and can only hazard a guess at the letters below the 20/20 line. I have no pain, no problems, no dry eyes, can read tiny font still, and was driving the next day , I was shortsighted now I can see for miles in proverbial HD . I am fully healed and feel great.

I love the rain cos now, no more taking off the face hardware and wiping drips and fingermarks off. Jogging and swimming is in another league. Can see!

Optimax staff were so polite and friendly and fussfree luxury relaxing chesterfield sofas and everything ambient not like being in a medical environment at all. You are asked to tap their screen for a pc survey afterwards at follow up visits, and tick boxes on forms ,but not once do they never harrass you or send spam and say ring any time if you have any problems. So glad I done it and sounds really comical but wish I'd taken this step years ago. I am over the moon.

  • Hey all

I thought I'd update you on my laser eye surgery journey.

I went for a consultation with Optical Express. On the day they quoted me a price of £3790 (both eyes) but quickly reduced that to £3411. They offered it to me with 30 months interest free.

I advised this was too high. They came back with new price of £2995.

I then went for a consultation at Optimax (now merged with Ultralase). On the day they quoted me £2639.

I went back to Optical Express who offered to match that price.

I then went back to Optimax who do a price-beat-promise, so quoted me £2539, also with 30 months interest free.

I did not respond, and subsequently received an email from Optimax saying that if I could take a cancellation appt that week I could have the surgery for £2295.

I responded to say that if they could do it for £1995 on a future date, with 30 months interest free, I'd book immediately with full deposit.

I have now booked in my treatment at a total cost of £2095. Not bad when you think I started off at £3790.

    Happy eye-surgery-shopping!
  • I've been reading through pages of this thread and have noticed the prices fluctuate dramatically, is this dependent on prescription/astigmatism, or just what the surgeries decided to quote that day?

Has everyone tried to knock the prices down or just went with the flow?

I am planning on getting laser eye surgery and have read a fair few people go to Turkey to receive it at a much cheaper price, ranging from £800-£1000 for both eyes, while it may cost up to £2300 or more in the UK for the same procedures.
  • Hi

I am having my consultation in the next couple of weeks. I have seen lots of vouchers, but they all seems to have expired. Does anyone have a current voucher, also one thread said they received a reduction when they said price was too high. Is this quite common in most branches of optical express.

    Rgds

Has anyone managed to get a discount at Moorfields Eye Hospital?

I am very badly shortsighted, so the retail chains wont touch me. I think my left eye can be corrected, but right eye would be about -2.
