Hi all
I have just ( a week ago) had my eyes done with Ultralase in Cardiff. I had the Ultra Wavefront Lasik Elite for prescription of -5 and -4.5, also some astigmatism. I hate night driving and really struggle so am hoping this treatment will help.
To all who are worried, I am honestly the biggest wimp ever and had built myself up into a mass ball of anxiety pre-op but it was fine. In hindsight my only comment is I wished I had looked at post op and what to expect! I had been so focused on the actual procedure I hadn't read much about the first 6 hours after.
Nothing too terrible and they do send you home with a vial of local anaesthetic if it is terrible - I didn't need this. I would describe it as feeling like you are peeling an onion continuously for several hours. Lots of eye watering hence best thing is to go to sleep and wake up fresh and with sight!
The other thing is to feel 100% confident in the surgeon. All the discount deals in the world are a mute point if you are not happy with who is doing the procedure. This is what drove me to go to Cardiff as Joseph Karthikappallil is very well regarded in his field.
I was originally quoted £3700 but pointed out that Optimax (who own Ultralase) had 15% off on their website, hence got it for £3200 with 24 months interest free credit. I felt this was a fair price.
Checkup due tomorrow. Only a couple more days of eye drops - that is a necessary chore. 2 days of every 2 hours with 2 lots of drops that need 5 minutes between taking them, then every 4 hours for a week. Luckily though no infection and I haven't really had dreaded dry eye either.0 -

Expect to pay no more than £2300! and interest free credit also if liked they charged your debit card £10 to reserve an appointment this is payable back or deducted from your treatment. It IS free to consult them but it at least ensures no timewasters. They keep the tenner if you dont show up of course.
I can only get Optimax to drop £100 under Optilase (who want £3,100 for me with LASIK, Wavefront and Intralase) so can I ask if that was a limited time offer or suchlike?0 -
A word of warning.I had ICL surgery at Moorfields Private and at the time the surgeon promised faithfully to tweek the outcome with LASIK for free any time I wanted. Now when I ask him to honour that commitment he wants to charge the full price of £2150 per eye.Get any such offer in writing, apparently even top eye surgeons have convenient memory lapses.0

It is interesting reading different people's experiences. I ended up going with Accuvision, and had a horrible time, including a real mess up over what I was even paying for. I would certain repeat paddycomeback's recommendation about getting things in writing. In my case this could have solved a lot of issues later on.0

I first had Laser treatment in 1992 I was one of the first 2,000 to have it done commercially and it was carried out by Optimax in London.
I paid £375 per eye and had 20 years without wearing glasses or contacts and loved the freedom the treatment gave me.
I'm now 43 and my eyesight isn't what it was and last year I started wearing glasses again. I've just started looking into the possibility of having the treatment again even if it buys me another 15 years it'll be well worth it :-)
Looking at the posts here it seems best to play them all off with each other.0 -
Hello laser eye surgery lovers,
I am looking to get Laser eye correction and came across these people:
Advanced Vision Care (AVC)
(I can't link as a new user)
They offer a referral scheme. If you've had surgery with them, I'd appreciate a PM. You'd apparently get £100 and I'd save £500 so it's winner-winner. I'm loathed to spend over £2000 on surgery when apparently they can "discount" it by £600 this easily.
Many thanks

Hi, my wife has been to Optical Express for a consultation about laser eye surgery. Her eyes aren't too bad (-1.5 and -0.5 if I remember correctly) and she was quoted £2100 for lasek treatment.
She's since spoken to OE again and said she was hoping to pay nearer the £1500 mark, the person then offered her it for £1200. So minimal haggling and they knock £900 of the original quote. It seems a bit too good to be true, not sure if this is just normal practice or not though. Has anyone got any idea or experience of this?

My friend has asked me to look online for a list of opticians offering laser surgery, as she is hopeless with computers
We are looking for a list with preferably, a great service but also not too expensive if such things exist! She told me her eyes are so bad and I cant remember the type of surgery they told her she would need when she went for a test 10 years ago but, it was going to cost her £3,000 for both eyes. Thanks0 -

I am thinking to have laser eye surgery done from Optical Express in London (Westfield Mall). My number is around -4.5 and -2.5.
Please give me any tips for reducing the cost?0
