yup i also have the opyival express vouchers £300 quid off - theyve all diff options like we split 150 - 150 or i get the 300 but im not interested in making on this feel companys taking the mic as it is. So if anyone need a voucher u can pm me.
As i have said before i got them down with a voucher i had from somewhere then said id think about it - they phoned next day and i said it was just way to dear she brought it down then i asked if i got it done asap or a cancellation appt would it be cheaper so got it down to 1650 or thereabouts from an original 2400. That was in 2009 but as i was breastfeeding and they had failed to read my form right they had to hold that price got it down last nov -so shoulda got it down yrs ago - amazing. had have lasek in the end which is sorer initially as they scratch the surface rather than underneath but well worth it.
  • I have been to an optimax consultation today. I was quoted £795 an eye (what happened to £395? and my prescription isnt high either at -1.5) for basic Lasik or Lasek. Obviously wavefront added to the price. But i could have the top lasik treatment with wavefront and intralase for the special offer price -so they were offering £2395 for that treatment.

Interestingly they asked several times if it was my first consultation so i now think they may have haggled if i'd been elsewhere. So i might hold out or try OE instead?

Hi Princess Jane - just to flag up, £4,700 is quite a lot of money for surgery even with a -6.00 prescription. There are other clinics with more advanced technology who can safely treat up to -14 for less. I had my surgery done at Accuvision and I'm a minus 8. It was much cheaper - around £3000.

Check the small print before you commit to buy, UltraLase are the most expensive on paper but they have a fixed rate instead of a sliding scale so if you have a high prescription they are sometimes the cheapest and crucially - as far as I can see anyway - they are the only clinic to offer free lifetime aftercare; if you need more laser eye surgery in 5 years time it's free with UltraLase but you have to pay the full whack with Optimax or Optical Express.
  • I had a consultation yesterday at Optical Express in Birmingham. I was given 2 options the first Lasik with Wavefront at a cost of £3130 and the second of Standard Lasik with Intralase at a cost of £2340. I wasn't expecting it to be that much after talking to people I know who have already had the treatment. I mentioned this at the consultation and immediately they dropped the price to £2000 and would then take another £100 off if I signed up straight away. I didn't, instead I have brought the information pack home to have a think about it. Are these prices about right or do they just automatically give a higher price then reduce it to make it look like they are doing you a better price?

The other question I have after reading the literature is that at no point during the consultation did they say that if it wasn't successful that I may still need glasses for shortsightedness. I thought the whole point of laser treatment was to not have to wear glasses again. (I no long sighted as we grow older is different and I may need glasses later for reading).

I'm now considering Optimax in Birmingham to compare their treatment and costs. Can anyone offer me any advise and what to expect from either. Many thanks.
  • That article was great. Many people have no idea about such things and they spend much more money. Thank you for sharing this useful article with us.:T
  • Hi
I am probably being too late in asking for some advice as I am booked for a treatment later on today with Optimax. They quoted me £2395 which is the offer they have on at the moment and thinking about it, I wish I could take them down a bit. I am -4.50 and cy-1.5 and -1.5 and cyl -1.25. OE quoted me £3190 and didn't seemt to want to budge at all.
I was also advised to go for Intralase Wavefront because of the size of one of my pupil being 6.9mm. Standard Lasik Wavefront would be £2180 and if I can get a £500 voucher, maybe this is the better option for me.
Any advice at all would be great. Which one should I go for and do you think I can get the cost down?

    Thanks

    Hello,

I had my treatment at Optical Express at Meadowhall, Sheffield.
I chose there as I live in Sheffield, so it was close by, just in case.

My own personal opinion was that I was only going to do it once, so I went for the top treatment, as I had been considering it for years.

I had intralase wavefront and mine was £3,000.
I didnt really have this kind of money, but did it on interest free, over 10 months.

I claimed the amound of the deposit back by joining Healthshield, through my work (like Westfield), as I could claim for laser eye. (I have posted details previously, if you click on my name/profile).

I got a discount for booking a last minute appointment (it wasnt really, but it was a few weeks time), so that saved me some money.

There are vouchers for discounts, on these forums, or discounts if you work for certain employers.

The WF is supposed to give you a vision that is a bit like high-definition TV as opposed to normal TV. I had LASEK so no WF and therefore I can't vouch for it, but my vision is excellent! I am so pleased and don't regret not spending more.

    Hi all,

I have decided to get laser surgery done. I am short sighted and my eyes are normal, I am -1.5 in both eyes.

    1. How much should I expect to pay (I am willing to wait) per eye?

    2. Are there any offers going? I don't mind buying of ebay etc.

    Thanks!
  • I would go and have an appoitnment with at least a couple of laser eye treatment providers so that you can compare the procedures, the cost, and most of all see which one you feel more comfortable with. Personnally I saw OE and Optimax. OE was closer to mine but I felt they didn't tell me all about the risks and it was all about the fact of how good they were, why th eprocedure cost so much is because they are the best...not really focusing on my needs. As a matter of fact, they omitted to tell me I had a lazy eye or that one of my eye's pupil size was just under the requirement. I had a consultation at Optimax which is further away but at the end,I felt more comfortable with them. Do your research and read all you can on forums. OE offered me £190 lower than the original asking price of £3190 with no free interest credit whereas Optimax had a special offer on and 18 months free interest credit for the same treatment being Lasik Wavefront Intralase. Good luck. If you go with Optimax, I have a £500 voucer you cna use but can't be combined with special offers. So enquire around and see what suit you best.
