hi, been reading this forum with much interest as i am about to go for a consultation at optical express in bournemouth. i was just wondering if anyone had had the advanced customvue wavefront treatment and if it was worth the extra cost compared to the regular lasik/lasek op. also, cost wise would people recommend them or trying to get a half-price offer at Optimax? id really appreciate some help as im going in a bit blind (excuse the pun) at the moment!

    Hello,

I had mine done at Optical Express in July 2010. I had the wavefront and intralase. I am glad I did it, for myself.

For me, as I was only going to do it once, I just wanted the best treatment. I paid £3,000, which is a lot of money! I didnt really have it, but doing it over 10 months interest free.

You should be able to get LASIK + WF at Optimax (half price) for £1800. This is a great price, bur not compatible with the £500 referral scheme.

    Hi,

I recentley had my consultation at Optical Express in Birmingham and was quoted £2300 for the standard treatment.

My current prescription is -4.5 and -4.75.

Could you tell me if that is a decent price for the standard treatment, or should i try somewhere else?

Optimax would probably be able to do their half price offer of £1800 for LASIK with wavefront, which is the optimal treatment really. It's well worth having a consult to see where you feel happier and what they can offer. Anyone on this board that has used Optimax (including me) will be able to offer you £500 off through the referral deal but in all honesty, that can't be used with the half price offer so works out less competitive. Anyone that tells you different is just trying to get £50 from your procedure! I would definitely suggest going to see Optimax and getting some prices. If you don't want Wavefront for any reason then you can't do the half price offer and at that point you could think about whether a £500 referral would make it cheaper than Optical Express. No offers at Optimax can be combined with Tesco vouchers.

    Good luck with it all!

It will cost £30 but that would be refunded if you weren't suitable, or deducted from price of an op. I found them great but see what you think, the more research you do and people you see the better.

Hope it all goes really well!

OK, I didn't realise they charged for it. All of the others are free, and only charge should you not turn up for your appointment.

I will call them later to find out the details.
  • Optimax change their deposit for booking a consultation a fair bit.. I only paid £10 and that was 2 weeks ago.

They do refund you the charge if you decided not to go ahead with the surgery
