  • Hi all

I've recently had a consultation with Optimax and feel confident to go ahead with them (very thorough talked through all the risks I had read about without having to ask etc). However I want to get the cost down. Does anyone have a referral code for optimax or any experience of 'haggling' down the cost?

    Any input is much appreciated!

Okay, not sure if this is going to help anyone thinking of having any surgery soon, but here goes. My friend went into Optimax for a consultation and then went ahead with the surgery for correction. I was with her the whole time. I found a voucher in the local paper which gave £200 off, and she was able to use it, bringing the costs down. Because I was attending with her, I filled out some paper work giving my details as I thought I may opt to have it too in the future, (my eyes are not weak enough right now!)

Anyway, in the year since, I have had all sorts of letters through from Optimax with every offer you can imagine! From a couple of hundred pounds off to half price surgery, cutting out £1500!! So it may be worthwhile going for a free consultation and doing "nothing" until an offer comes along that you like the sound of.

    ;)

i heard that Optimax even sell on ebay!

To be honest i would prefer a company that would offer me a straight forward price on the day which includes surgery with experienced surgeon and full aftercare. Rather than have a consultation and wait for a salesperson to call you with a "discount" or "special offer". Seems like a car salesman type tactic rather than offering a professional medical service.

    Hi,
I have been quoted £2500 from Optical express for Lasik with Wavefront and Intralase. Very minor stigmatism and -4.25 in 1 eye and -2.5 in the other.........
.......Do you think I could do any better than that in terms of cost for that type of surgery ?

Also, behind the closed doors of the consultation room, I was told that I had OK eyes an sensible strengths of eyes so I was 99% sure to get 20/20 vision with this treatment and about 75% chance to get above that (20/14 I think it was) - I currently have 20/14 with my specs and dont want to be worse off.............
........Do you think the percentage chances they gave were about right or were they just exagerating a bit ?

Would very much appreciate your comments and thoughts.
    Thanks

I had my eyes done in August last year with Optical Express, and have been contacted by several members from MSE asking for my referral code.

I have given out my referral code to each and several have come back to me stating they have used my code and got discount off their treatment.

Unfortuantely, i haven't received a penny in referral payments.

    Just a word of warning!

    Hi,
Im 24 and considering laser eye surgery. I am short sighted and also have astigmatism. My prescription has not changed over past two years, but i wanted to ask whether you think i am too young, as this is the only issue i have with going ahead.

    TIA

I had it at the exact same age with similar background to you. PM any queries you have and if you want to know about my experience.

Hey has anyone ever had a laser top up after Lasik wavefront surgery?
  • Hi sarah 31
I am a laser trained optician and there is absolutely no problem having laser eye surgery at your age - the most important issue is that your prescription is stable and it sounds like your is. The earlier you get it done the longer you will have to enjoy it. Once you hit about 45 you will need glasses for reading but this is the same for everyone - ask me any questions you want - and I will be happy to answer your questions

    Hi,
I have -4.25 and -2.5 eyesight, very small astigmatism and assume my pupil size is around average.
Need Lasik with interalase and wavefront(or equivalent)

Should I go for the Visx laser (Op Express) or the Allegretto Wavelight(Focus Clinics, London) ?

(Research on the surgeons show they have great reveiews and experience, so no differentiation there really)

    Thanks
