  • Hi Avs,

So Optimax is out...the laser they use doesn't have as good results as the Focus and Optical Express lasers and these other two show up in a much better light in reviews etc than Optimax does.

Yes I think we are talking about the same laser at Focus. That is an interesting question you pose and one that I will try and remember to ask as I am interested to know the answer. The only reason I can think of as to why they don't open up more clinics is because I don't think they want to be seen as a high street clinic but more of a private and swanky clinic only in London for the upper class and celebs...at least that is the impression I get from their YouTube videos. Despite this though, their service is still a similar and if not cheaper price to their competitors.

Dont get so much bogged down in the type of laser. its like deciding is a Ferrari or Porshe is better, unless youre a qualified racing driving! I remember when i was choosing and started to google for laser technical specs! But advice i was given go for quality surgeon who has many 000's opertion experience in LASIK and LASEK, and quality aftercare which is approachable at any time. For me Optical Express fitted the bill, my surgeon had over 25,000 ops to his name! I almost chose Ultralase but got annoyed by the cheap sales talk by the "personal adviser" and how they tried to give me a discount for one of their "less" experienced surgeons.

I got a text offering me the full package for 1600 pounds

Sounds a good deal..was this for IntraLase LASIK with Wavefront? What branch of Optimax was this?

I got quoted £2,890 at Optical Express. I get an impression from meeting them and this forum, that they're the best company for quality treatment and care.( -2.5 and -3.5)

So now I'm just waiting for them to give me a decent offer :p

How long do I need to wait before receiving these "offers"?
Or should I go in and ask them to match a rival price/ Haggle? I'm very flexible on the days I can have the treatment as my boss won't mind too much having days off ( I've heard Friday and Saturday are very popular because for workers it means they don't need much time off work). So could it work in my favour if I asked for Early part of the week?

I'm hoping for £1,500 per pair :) Quality is very important, but no reason to pay over the odds! I'm trying to save for a house, so money is tight. However the saving from having laser treatment should outway 25 years of paying for contracts/glasses+ Time saving

and NO, I do not want your referral offering me ONLY £200 off.

    Thanks for replying!

That was a bit harsh imo. A simple no thank you would have sufficed.

Quotes £2,890 by Optical Express and Focus Clinic in London for £2,659:eek:

I fail to see how expensive they are, considering it only takes afew minutes for the actual treatment. Then have aftercare and high staff costs and actual laser costs:mad:

I thought there would be lots of competition out there especially in London.

  • Ayoen off advice? I went to Optical Express for an appointment and was ok, but they breached DPA which was pretty unprofessional. Also couldn;t ask some basic question with other than "no"
I am now considering Optimax but a bit put off by some comments about the laser they use. I have -5/6 in each eye and have astigmatism as well. Is it right to worry abotuthe laser or more about the surgeon?

Interesting to note the DPA breach. Optimax did that when i when for consultation with them years ago - they have a PC which all people have to fill in a health forms before the consultation starts, only thing is that you could see the person before you details, and anyone in the waiting area could easily see what you are typing.

Wih regards to laser/surgeon - IMHO Surgeon an experienced suregon is essential. No good having the best laser in the world if your srugeon is new to laser eye surger, unless that is risks you are prepared for and such risk are factored in your eye surgery cost.
(i found Ultralase and Optimax offer big discounts for eye surgery with their less experienced surgeons from my experience, offered at the time)
