    Hi all

I choose Focus Laser Vision in London for my treatment and throughly recommend them for quality of service and, maybe surprisingly for a private clinic, their prices were much better than some other providers too.

If anyone should choose to gowith them please let me know as they operate a useful referral scheme too!

best to ask the clinic. If not tell them you can get a voucher, see the Optical Express refers thread, plenty of people offering discounts including myself.
  • I have an unlimited supply of £500 codes for Optimax.
Drop me a message and I'll pass on the details.
Having laser eye surgery counts in my top 10 of the best things I have ever done!

Seen lots of interesting info on here, thanks to all.

Few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer - apologies if answers are already on the thread, there's a lot of posts to plough through!

I'm based in London, and have had a consultation with Optical Express (Shaftesbury Ave) and have ones booked with Ultralase (Tott Ct Rd) and Optimax (Liverpool St)... but am now thinking about Moorfields Eye Hospital. any feedback on those clinics is much appreciated.

Optical Express seemed pretty good (although I don't like their pricing policy of charging more for a worse prescription even if it's using the same technique). They told me that because of my strong astigmatism I need their most expensive technique (Wavefront?), and that they have the most advanced laser technique and only other people that do is Moorfields... is this true?

Moorfields - I'm guessing that its the best as it has the surgeons that get sent really tricky eye cases from elsewhere - anyone got a review/ comment on them?

I know Moorfields is more expensive, but frankly I'm ok with paying morefor the best (as long as they are better!) as you only get one set of eyes.

    Thanks
    GAT

I had mine done with Julian Stevens at Moorfields about a month ago. Wonderful team, and he's a real gentleman. Answers questions properly, and believe me, as someone with Asperger's Syndrome, I am virtually a professional question asker! :rotfl:

Excellent service, no weird hardselling "just a follow up phone call after the initial consultation" like you get with the high street chains (I didn't go to just Moorfields), and I felt really confident, as he's one of the ones who fixes botched jobs from others, and on the day of my operation, he had a corneal transplant booked later in the day. In other words, a proper eye surgeon!

Could you give a ball park figure for how much the treatment cost at Moorfields?
I am not in the London area - but as you say, knowing you are in a 'proper' hospital with very experienced Dr sounds reassuring.
Although must admit I was both worried and relieved when I had a call last week from Optimax.

Checking through my details they spotted I take Anti-inflammatory medication, so wanted to check if it was for Osteo or Rheumatoid Arthritis, as apparantly one would be a definite no-no for laser surgery.

I haven't even had the consultation yet...The phone call worried me, but at the same time reassured me that they do not just offer laser treatment to everyone who walks in off the street; and that they actually do read ALL the details you have written.

Does anyone know of other nhs hospitals around the country who offer Laser treatment - obviously for the full commercial private fee?

    thanks

    Hello,

There is the Sheffield Eye Clinic - the proceedures are done by 2 NHS Surgeons according to their website and it is attached to the Hallamshire Hospital. I havent been, but have looked at the website. I live in Sheffield and had never heard of it. The reason I didnt give it any more thought was because they only give 1 year of aftercare when the 'High Street' ones give life long aftercare.
  • Has anyone managed to use the Tesco Clubcard Deals vouchers with Optimax and get £500 off for a referral or use one of their half price offers at the same time? I've got a load of vouchers I want to use and this seems like the perfect time to do it, but I don't want to miss out on the other offers since they're much better.

I don't think you can combine the Clubcard vouchers with the referral discount unfortunately.
