Laser Eye Surgery Cost Cutting Tips

Just found this thread and can't believe people are cutting costs and risking eye sight by going to these 'sales' places. Please take care and don't just buy into their sales pitch. My husband had his eyes done at sheffield vision centre which is based in the Royal Hallamshire hospital and is also used to treat NHS patients. This is a proper eye treatment centre and isn't just looking to make a profit as these are the people who would treat you should anything go wrong. I understand how expensive treatment is but please take care.Think about the quality aswell as the cost.0

I apprecitate what you are saying wadsleyowl but I think you will find that people will have done a lot of research into this and won't have taken or be thinking about taking eye surgery lightly. I did months of research first before originally having it done in 2005. Once I had made that decision it was then down to price - not the other way round. I am happy with who I chose to do mine. My surgeon also works in a well respected NHS hospital and I had checked out his qualifications, experience etc. It isn't only about price.
However, this site is about moneysaving so once people have got to the stage of wanting it, price is important and costs do vary and there are special offers to be had out there. The one I went with used to sell their otherwise unsold slots on ebay rather than have the laser and the surgeon sitting idle. I don't know if they still do that - but that in itself does not make it a bad clinic, but a wise use of resources IMHO.
In fact they turned me away for re-treatment last summer and said to go back in a few months. Some clinics might have taken my money anyway but I respect them for their honest advice. On Saturday when I was waiting for my surgery, another patient was also refused surgery on the basis that it didn't need doing and told to go back in 2 years. (I heard him telling the receptionist) Now if they were only a money grabbing outfit surely they would have taken his money and performed an unnecessary operation.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. If anyone wants to be my Optimax friend, I have vouchers for £500 off lasik in both eyes. Just drop me a line!
I'm due to go for surgery on Wednesday - I'm really excited but a bit nervous, but everyone else I know who's had it done says it is the best thing they ever did, so I've decided to bite the bullet. I'm really looking forward to not wearing specs every day - I'll probably be pushing my glasses up my nose for weeks afterwards!0 -
As well as being able to save money by vouchers on e-bay and last minute appointments, you should also just try to simply ask! at your appointment. You may be able to get the treatment on a finance scheme which can really help with the cost. If you dont know how finance works, read http://www.youreyeguide.co.uk/finance.html
If you know anybody else who wants laser, you should both go in and ask for a discount if you both sign up.0 -
Ian, both the clinic I used and others who advertise nationally, offer 2 years interest free credit. I would be very wary of getting tied into a finance deal if I didn't have the cash to pay for it upfront.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0

Can I ask why you ar wanting re treatment after 3 years??????? and why you would pay for it I thought it was a life time guaranteeSam B0 -

They don't give you any guarantees at all samuela66. You get lifetime treatment until they discharge you. When you are discharged your sight is 20.20 or better and mine was until recently.
they really don't know why my eye went a little bit shortsighted again but my surgeon said he was very confident that I shouldn't have to have it done any more.
I think there is a sliding scale of costs for re-treatment depending on how long ago you originally had it done. so I only paid just over £150.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
No problems, Stapedius - I've sent you the details in a PM.
If anyone else wants to be my Optimax friend, just send me a message. Happy to help0
