  • My mom used to make us write down on a pad by the side of the phone the numbers we called and how long for - she then cross referenced them with the bill and when it was very high cost - we paid for our calls - taught me a lesson - phone after 6!!!

  • £400 a month on petrol is jawdropping. My maths (which may be wrong :D) calculate that you must be doing nearly 2000 miles per month. Is that right? Consider any alternatives. Public transport? Car sharing?
  • Your cars are costing over £500 pm which is over £600 pa. That is near enough half what your OH earns.
  • Hi. While it seems to be good that you have suspended one payment this month you then claim that it has saved you 110 every month. I'm sorry but all you have done is put off paying the loan for one month and paid off the power arrears. Unless you are paying 110 a month in arrears all you have done means that this month you will overspend by 400 odd pound instead of 500 and you haven't addressed your main priority which is food. It is great to try and pay your debts off but you really need to prioritise eating.

I am quite sure that running a car is far more expensive than calling a taxi when required.
Once you have taken petrol, MOT, insurance, repairs, breakdown cover, a car costs approx £200 or more a month. Even if the car itself is paid for.
Would you be paying the same amount in taxi fares?

  • Good Morning All

Today is another day for looking at my finances, having also had a long talk with my OH last night we seem to have sorted a lot out so will need to adjust SOA today, have docs early so will get on to it later got a few more calls to make as well, One thing I didn't mention yesterday was that my OH has stopped smoking and I didn't notice (I surre I completely lost the plot not to notice this one). was given a small boast last night too a friend has lent me some money for food shopping so going to get some in today, something nice for tea tonight!!
  • Hi
Have just read all of your thread.

Without being personal, can I ask if your illness gives you mobility problems which inhibits you?

You seem to be quite adamant that you need both cars - I just wondered if there is a 'physical' reason, or are you just not happy with the inconvenience?

I don't mean to be offensive by saying that, but am currently in the process of selling our second car (for similar reasons) and the worst part for me (haveing had a car of my own since I was 20), was not having the convenience of it. But at what cost? I am so broke - I cannot afford to use it for pleasure anyway:rotfl:

I think we all sometimes overlook the emotional upheaval that debt causes - and there is nothing wrong with admitting you are finding the changes difficult to contemplate and cope with.

All I will say is this. I have opened myself up on this site - for better or for worst - and any harsh comments I have received have made me look at myself more closely and I realise have always been in my best interest.

Get the advice you nedd from nationaldebtline or CCCS and continue to post for the support you need to get through this.

I wish you all of the very best.

    Had a quick wiz through

Some good advice, the creditors can wait

    Priority spends are
    food
    rent
    council tax
    essential utilities

Longer term I think you need to look at where you live £400pm in fuel just to get to work and back is a lot for the wage it brings in.
Ok there are other factors like schools.

If you can find an area that reduces the dependancies on cars you will be a lot better off in the long run.

It costs around £50pm just to have a car sitting doing nothing when you add up the tax, insurance and MOTs, thats before it takes you anywhere

Choosing a place that has better public transport links for all your needs will help a lot ideal would be getting hubby to not need a car it just sits in the car park all day.
  • Hi Dancing Fairy Thankyou for everything, I have spoken to my G.p Today and
I will be doing a revised SOA later today as I have managed to sort out a few things since yesterday, the £110 I mentions to to clear a final payment from sottish power that is left over since I tranfered my fuel services to another company once this is paid it is a saving of 110.00 pm also have now learnt that one of our creditor repayments should of been covered by insurance since I have not been working now this is a big chunk of money £470.00 this is going to make a big difference to our outgoings I am going to relook at our SOA later hopefully will come out with a bit extra for food and repayments.

Great news about the insurance, Budget

Have you got PPI with any of your other loans etc.? You might find you can claim for all of them.

If they try to say you are not covered for your particular situation, many people have had success in reclaiming PPI premiums and obtaining compensation for the mis-selling of this type of insurance
