More students drop out in the 1st term of their 1st year than at any other time, so something more than just once a year proof wise would be good.
Maybe a copy of her transcript could be sent to your husband each term? She would have to do it, the uni obviously wont. If you think that's too much & it would cause a drama then the opposite end of the 'prying' scale might be a copy of her entitlement to not pay council tax (her uni will give her a form to send to the c/t dept) It will have the start & end date on it, often covering the length of the course.
I don't know what might be best tbh & don't envy you the situation, but well done him for supporting her so well, nice to see it on here for a change.
Just wanted to add that she may come round in time & they may have a halfway decent relationship. On the other hand she could be a spoilt brat forever. If she is starting uni in the next few weeks it can be a tough time for many kids, so putting her under any (perceived) pressure is likely to be counter productive on many levels & just cause aggro.

If she applies for any financial support, in terms of student grants, she will be expected to provide the StudentFinanceDirect with info on both parents

also, as she's now 18, she should be sorting out her own contracts for things like mobile phones
stop paying that for her, even if it just means an increase in her 'pocket money'
  • What if she isn't having any contact with one of her parents and they refuse to provide this information?

    No she won't.

The household income of her home address is the one that counts, not just the income of the parent with whom she lives - both incomes (if there is a 2nd income). Her father's income has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on her student finance application.
