Presumably this maintenance should now be going to daughter not mum, so an alternative would be a letter along the lines of "Now you're over 18 I need to start paying your maintenance to you not your mum while you're at university, please let me have details of which bank account I should use. Also please let me know how long your course is." See if she makes contact then!
I agree with Savvy_sue.
Also not all university degrees are four years. The majority are only three years.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Fantastic advice on here, I'm in the boat of stop paying..
Put the money aside that you would normally pay, and wait... if she is in uni then fine, tell her if she want's money she needs to keep him updated of what she is doing ie stay in uni or dropped out, if he doesn't get info then the money stops again as he cannot trust someone who only contacts him for money.
In the letter i would say that unless you hear from her then after 6 months he will assume she didn't go to uni, include in this letter some paper, and envelope addressed and stamped and maybe a pen....Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

Not if the daughter has been educated in Scotland and is planning to study there. Also, there are still degree courses of up to 4 years with an international year, as in the old "sandwich" courses.0 -

The reason it is four years is that she is doing a 12 month work placement which makes the course 4 years.
He has not been forced by the courts to pay this, this is something he happily offered to do.
The maintenance is still paid to husbands ex as his daughter is not going away to uni she is staying living there, he pays daughters 'pocket money' direct to her bank account and the mobile phone contract is in his name and he pays that for her.
Thanks0 -

Well, I still say that as part of the DD's growing independence it should be paid to her, and then if her mum asks for part of it that's up to them.
When there is a consent order in place that has been approved at the court you cant do anything different i.e. start paying his daughter the maintenance as it says in the order it will be paid direct to her mother.0 -

I wonder if this could be as when the agreement was made his daughter was a minor. At 18 she is now an adult in her own right. Have a look at the agreement there may be a clause in the arrangement for when she reaches this age.
There is nothing to stop your partner talking to a solicitor for advice on what proof is needed of her attendance for the payments to continue and to whom they should be paid to.
What if she decides to take a gap year, prior to starting university, is your partner expected to continue the payments during this time.
Personally I think he really need to find out what is going on. At present he is being used financially without even the common courtesy of knowing what is going on with her life. A little rude in my way of thinking.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
