    Or Bookie you could write

    Dear Mr head honcho

I have recently taken the very difficult decision to close my book shop business after xx no of years successful trading. This was primarily due to the large book store chains sapping the life out of small traders like myself with their soulless sterile fluorescent lighting and their sickly wafts of non fat grande latte emanating from the 'have a nice day' counter.

My many years of working with the insufferable public has given me many hours of enjoyment as I visualise inserting dragon books up their rectums. In many ways I would prefer to crawl a mile naked over broken glass than work with the general public again but the alternative is to remain a 'jobseeker' which brings with it a whole new world of fraternising with the great unwashed.

So, I would be grateful if you could offer me a position if one arises

    :) only kidding

I love that - I'll send it as a follow up if I get a job elsewhere.
I must confess that I do not really want to go back into retail!
