I do like the idea, but our gardens at the rear are secured so not much chance of dogs getting in, we both have pretty big back gardens with lovely lawns and flowers, with his respect for his own garden you would think he would respect me for mine.

Today alone I have had 5 cigarette ends launched out from his bedroom rear window into my garden, I really cant understand why he insists on doing this, its not as if it is accidental, this is a deliberate act that is going to continue unless I can do something about it.

Upto now I have sided onto the idea of collecting the dimps in a flower pot (it will be full within a week), but what to do with them from there is anyone's guess, I will take them around and pass them onto him asking (yet again) to refrain from discarding them into my garden,,,, but I just know he isn't going to take notice.

I wish I knew what his problem was, as its really starting to stress me out.

Very easy for me to say, but don't get mad get even.

I used to find I'd get a bit stressed when people played their music through their phones on the bus. Now I either don't go upstairs or just chill and ignore. I know your home is a different kettle of fish so complain to the council but don't let him get you down.
  • Have you tired just leaving them where they land? I suspect half his fun is watching you clean up his mess!
If you can bear to, just leave them for a few days - he might decide it's not so much fun if he gets no 'rise' out of you for doing it.

just a suggestion - personally i would buy a nice big ashtray in a charity shop wrap it nicely and call round with his present and

lob it through his front window with all your strength.

    Problem will strangely disappear!

I thought that it wasn't actually illegal to throw your litter in someone else's garden. Bizarrely.

It is a criminal offence but your be lucky to get the police to investigate it. Just like a lot of low level crimes your local council has the powers to deal with it and take action if neccessary.
  • wait until late at night and climb over the fence and do a massive poo on his back door step

I was about to say the same thing. It sounds to me like he is enjoying annoying you and going round to talk to him again will just amuse him more. He sounds like a very boring man that has nothing better to do than wind you up. My previous neighbours were so bored that they kept complaining about anything we did or didn't do (we didn't do anything anti-social and were always polite to them even when they swore at us) In the end they got bored at not getting a reaction and moved onto annoying another neighbour.
Leave them a month and he will soon get bored and you will only have to put up with it for a month longer. Hope its gets sorted soon. I know how bad neighbours can make you feel. I use to dread going home in case our neighbours were around and no one should ever be made to feel like that.
    Good luck.

I actually think this guy is so ignorant he doesn't realise he is causing nusiance. Like 99% of other smokers they don't seem appericate throwing their cig butts on the ground is actually littering.
I find it intresting that everyone who has replied would agree he is doing something wrong by throwing his cig butts onto the OP garden but you just need to walk past any office or public building to see smokers throwing their butts on the ground without any shame or belive they are doing something wrong.

I woud buy a pack of cheap envelopes and place one cig butt in each envelope and post it to him forgetting to attach a stamp (or perhaps you attached one but it fell off...) - perhaps he can see how 'amusing' it is once he has been inconvenienced by it (£1 postage charge + stamp price he has to pay should teach him after a couple of times) and technically I dont see that you are doing anything wrong - you are simply returning his property to him and dont want to do it face to face incase it causes an arguement... and if he thought the butts were rubbish he would have put them in the bin so returning them by post is the neighbourly thing to do!

I can just imagine his face when he pays £1.30 or so for a letter (or even better goes to sorting office to collect it and pay the fine) only to find he's just paid to receive his own cigarette butt!!!!

I should say I am an ex-smoker who does not mind others smoking but would go crazy at anyone I know dumping butts in my garden, let alone a neighbour doing it.

  • Keep a bucket full of fireworks aimed at his rear window in your back garden.
  • Agreed he is simply getting a kick from winding you up and if you effectively plead with him to stop he will simply enjoy it more. Classic bullying syndrome.

I have experienced unsociable neighbours myself in the past and believe me, they are fully aware of what they are doing, cannot/will not be reasoned with, and will quite happily carry on untill either someone in authority sorts them out or failing that, a change of circumstances intervenes.
