We loved having Elfie Stardust stay with us last year and I'm already excited for him to come back. My girls are 4 & 1 1/2 this year, and eldest daughter loved tucking elfie into his stocking (sleeping bag) under the tree at night and finding him up to no good in the morning.

Some of my favorite things he got up to overnight (DH got more into it than me in the end!):

Zip wire from the top of the tree, found mid air with the angel from the tree on his back!

Making snow angels out of sugar on the kitchen table (DD was 3 at the time and managed to eat quite a bit of the sugar before we could clean it up!)

Tea party with other dollies & teddies

Cutting out snow flakes... leaving a big mess!

Movie night, with remote control in hand and bowl of popcorn

Hiding in the fridge, nice & cold: reminds him of home!

Already started to think of ideas for this year. We are going to Orlando for Christmas & New year, so he will arrive here early Dec and then come on holiday with us. Thinking a good one will be for him to be found swimming in the pool (on a lilo) one morning. We are meeting up with my in-laws from Canada, am unsure if my 9 year old nephew will go along with it... I hope so!

I searched high & low last year and struggled to find a nice elf and left it too late to get someone to knit one (I certainly can't knit but my Mum knows a few good knitters). I ended up buying one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DOG-CHRISTMAS-TOY-squeaky-Green-elf-Santas-elfers-12_W0QQitemZ400080509179QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Dogs?hash=item5d26a818fb I have no knowledge of the sellers. It's actually a dog toy, not my first choice of Elf, but it worked well for us! There seem to be a few sellers for both red & green.

Looking forward to seeing everyones ideas this year.:j

If you don't mind ordering from the States (as we still have plenty of time left for it to arrive) then give these a go, they are the most gorgeous little elves I've ever seen.

I am sooo excited about doing this, my elf is stashed away in a box upstairs but I am tempted to put him in a box with a carton of milk or something and leave him outside the front door overnight so that the kids will think he has been delivered!! I also thought about posting him but with the way royal Mail are then it would be my luck that he would get lost!!

    Any more ideas from anyone?

I was thinking about taking photos of my elf now doing daft things so i can get them printed out now and leave them for the kids on various mornings in december, thought this would make it more believable?
Man who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

I just bought a cheap tripod from the pound shop and left it attached to the camera on the bench and said " who's been playing with the camera???, and then pretended to be shocked when i saw the results our elf was very naughty!! ;)

Im so excited to start doing the activities with my elf!! I bought mine from Craftlady on here and he is fab - so cute and because his eyes are hidden the boys wont be able to tell if hes fibbing or not (i tell the boys i can see it in their eyes and the truth comes out!) :rotfl:

  • I did an elf for my daughter last year and she loved it! The "elf" I bought was a small Tesco snowman from a charity shop. It had a Christmas hat and a red nose, so it was Christmassy. We called it "Little Dot" and he arrived in a Christmas Gift bag with a letter from Santa, a passport and a note book. I've found a lovely small snowman notebook to use this year - I could not find anything Christmassy in time for 1 December last year. Every night Little Dot would write a report on what DD had been doing and then say "I can smell bread baking downstairs - yum" which was a clue to the naughty things he got up to. Little Dot went back home with Santa on Christmas Eve but left a little toy behind. DD is an only child and she said it was like having a friend. The sort of naughty things that Little Dot did were:

    - colour the bread in the bread maker blue!
    - hide in the fridge when he got homesick
    - decorated DD's room with loo roll when she slept in a different room for a sleepover (the friend who stayed thought this was funny too!)
    - Opened up my box of Xmas crackers and spread them over the floor
    - Hid in various places
    - Ate fruit from the fruit bowl
    - Tried to write Christmas cards
    - went in the bread bin
    - climbed on the Christmas tree

I hope this gives someone some good ideas. It was a lovely thing to do and my daughter really loved it but some nights it was hard what to do next!

Does anyone know where I could get a ready made up version of the Alan Dart elf, exactly like in JammyGal's post on page 1 of this thread? I would be willing to pay for costs/time/postage if there is anyone clever out there that could make one? I am very, very crafty but knitting is the one thing that I just can't master!

We already have two of these, purchased last year from an ebay seller that I can no longer find. Baby #3 is on the way now though and I am already panicking that next year we won't have 3 matching elves. Hormones!!!;)

What colours have you already got I might be able to help and knit one for you
