EEEkK - have just had my first parking ticket from Parking Eye - I parked in a retail park, and did overstay by 45 mins. Should I go with what I have read above, and just ignore it? I hate the thought of being bombarded with nasty letters - and if I don't pay right away, cost could increase to £110 :(

You have found a thread from nearly a year ago - did you not realise we have a whole current busy parking board with LOADS of threads about Parking Eye?

Did you not read the sticky threads, watch the Watchdog video etc when you first searched for info? See top of forum, stickies by Crabman called 'PPC letters, what to expect' and 'welcome, please read before posting':

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

Ignore the whole thing, nothing will happen expect some letters, your credit rating will not be affected.

    YES!!! IGNORE!!!

These worthless bits of paper are not even real 'parking tickets' or 'fines' so please stop calling them that! See my signature for Martin Lewis' summary of this con - his article was in a few national newspapers.

Read up about it and please stop getting so bothered by a scam similar to phishing emails. See the top thread 'PPC letters' for a preview of the letter-chain you will receive. Ignore it all. And the Watchdog clip tells you all you need to know about the legality of a fake ticket with pretty pictures of a car on it!

Except that private citizens (i.e the parking company or the store) cannot impose unfair penalties on other private citizens. They parked in a free car-park, overstayed slightly and then are asked to pay £50. This would be deemed an unfair penalty because it bears no relation to the actual loss suffered by the land-owner. That's how the civil law works.

By the way which parking company do you work for?

If the charge was, maybe, a quid or so then I'd agree that the OP was being silly. But how can you justify a £50 charge for using the car park for it's legitimate purpose of visiting the retailer and spending money with them? That's just stupid.

The whole ethos of this board is not to park when/where you shouldn't, but if you make a genuine mistake it's unfair (and thankfully unenforcable) to levy such a disproportionate penalty.

(Just realised (a) the date of the OP, and (b) that I quoted the wrong post and it now appears that I'm ranting at trisontana!)
  • mcphail, I took the advice of all the replies and ignored them and they did in fact stop. If I remember rightly only got about 3/4 letters in total. Hope this helps.

No its not a "Fine" its a speculative invoice, they are "asking" you to pay! You have no reason to do so. Your best course of action is to ignore them and have a read around this forum to see how many have ignored them!
  • Complain to Aldi, telling them you won't shop there again until they get rid of Parking Eye.

See my post #23 and links just 3 above your post. Why would you come here, read the above and still think it's a fine? It's a scam!

This once again gives a lie to the propaganda peddled by the BPA. This states that the private parking "industry" is all about stopping abuse and trespass on "private land". It's no such thing. It's just a money making exercise designed to trap legitimate shoppers who dare to break their stupid "rules".

I would be inclined to go into the ALDI, load up the biggest trolley they have with frozen food, take it to the checkout and then abandon it, proclaiming "my parking time is up. I don't want to get a ticket".

I received three letters from Parking Eye for a 12 minute overstay and then NOTHING.

Completely ignore Parking Eye, keep the letters and then show/tell your friends/family about Parking Eye and other Private Parking Companies who are trying to make easy money out of motorists and shoppers in particular.

Tell them it is not a fine but a speculative invoice.

    Complain to Aldi.

    If you were worrying, stop.
