I am very accepting. There are a lot of people who things are nto meant to be grand for and I feel I am just one of those.

I have to ask...is there a chance you might be suffering from depression? I don't mean to "get" at you, I've had depression myself and been treated for it but that's also why I also get the strong vibe from what you write that all is not well somehow. It's rare for a person to see everything quite so bleakly unless they are depressed.

I know that we're not really supposed to give medical advice here but I do think it might be worth going to see your doctor, for a check up at least, and to talk about any worries you might have.

  • Hi Guys!

I think the only thing I miss about how I used to live is the freedom of spending whatever (especially on food) and not worrying about how I would pay for it as we had the means to pay for it and dint need to budget before I became ill.

TBH though, I do prefer living as I do now as I have alot of satisfaction from not spending alot IYSWIM. I get a buzz knowing that I have saved this amount and that amount and still got what I needed.

Reverbe-I am not going to make any personal comments, but I think its sad that you have such a long distance relationship. The support would be great for you both if you were to spend quality time together. OH used to work away alot a few years back and I found it very difficult and thats after being married for a few years etc. When we were younger he moved to Ireland for a year and we seperated for a little while and we loved each other very much but it was SO difficult. Would you maybe get some help from HB if you were to get yourself a little bedsit or flat if you havent a job? It would be lovely for you to get some of your own space and then you could maybe reacess (sp) your situation.

As for you living circumstances, I have every sympathy for you, but there are ways of getting a home from your local authority. You don't have to be a drug addict, but it helps. You don't have to get pregnant, but it helps, but did you even put your name down on the housing list?

OUr council will not do this unless I fit any of those categories.Sorry to hear that things were so bad for you but glad you worked it out in the end and came through a strong person. I appreciate the time and thought behind your post. xxx

I find it hard to beleive that your council is so specific about the only two groups the ywill help and apparently ignore current homeless legislation.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Our council is very similar. If you are not a single mother or drug addict then the waiting list for housing is well over 10 years.

Plus if you have someone's floor to stay on, then they won't help as they don't deem you as homeless  Even when we were younger and going to be made homeless, various relatives offered to put us up at different houses and even if our family were spread across two towns, they said we wouldn't count as homeless.

Darn, thanked when I meant to quote :o Another council ignoring homelesssness legislation. Maybe these councils should be named and shamed ;)

Absolutely no chance whatsoever. I am sorry that things seem to have been so bad for you. I have always been very accepting and just as there are intelligent people in the world and some who are not so much, beautiful people in the world and some who are not so much, there are people in the world who are meant to have happy fulfilled lives and there are some for whom fate has decreed this is not to be the case. I dont believe in chasing moonbeams, I just get on with life.I am not depressed and this has been confirmed by a doctor but have a very strong sense of realism.I just dont come across as my true self. People dont see the strength, tongue in cheekness and matter of fact attitude about things on messageboards where it is easy to not gauge the mood/tone/intention, get the wrong idea and to be critical of others.

I thank you for your concern and hope that thigns are a lot better for you in your life these days.

Thanks Penny. All my relationships have been long distance. I have never dated anyone who has lived in the same town so do not know the luxury of being able to see them anytime you want. I used to be engaged to someone in Seattle but I did tend to see quite a lot of them here and there.I have never really found any of my LDRS that difficult as I believe you both should have your own lives but it would just be nice to see someone from time to time.I guess its getting harder as life gets harder and I don't have any friends either.

I appreciate the comments and the sharing of your own experiences.

  • Have just caught up on this thread, after spending a while wondering if there was anything else I missed apart from incessant magazine buying! And tbh whilst I would love to win the lottery, for the feeling of total financial security for me and my loved ones and the ability to travel a lot more, I am quite happy with my lot!

As many of the posters here have said, there is huge satisfaction from living your life in a way that ensures that you have everything you need, and can manage to obtain what you want at a bargain price or for free!

Jackieglasgow - your post really made me think what we can achieve when we want to, seemingly against all odds, perhaps a huge part of being os is having an indominatible can do spirit? Maybe that's something that you are born with or can achieve, os certainly helps you realise just what you can do! It's a shame about the cinema being ludicrously expensive, but quite often threads pop up with free tickets, think they may even have their own thread on the freebie board now, so long as you don't mind going on weekday evenings or weekend mornings and live near one of the cinemas participating they are great and generally the tickets are fairly easy to get! Hope that you can take advantage of them.

Without wishing to get involved in a house fracas, is housing benefit not payable to those with no or very low incomes everywhere? I have a friend who may well end up homeless with her two boys, and after visiting the benefits peeps they suggested that rather than just stay with me that I should rent a room to them. I am quite happy for them to stay here as long as they may need to should the worst happen, and was quite surprised by the rental suggestion! But anyhoo, I just wondered whether HB was available to all, could be worth asking for anyone in a similar situation.

I am more than happy to name and shame my council where they charge well over £1000 council tax and several people are on well over £100,000 for a small town and where they place junkies and thieves in the flats below us.
