  • No as I have always been a 'canny' shopper ,but even more so in the past few months since being on the GC Challenge.I have cut my food shoping bills down to £30.00 a week instead of around £50, and I haven't noticed any deprivation at all.Just shows how often I was shopping 'on auto pilot'.Now I only buy what is needed and have stopped 'impulse buys'
  • Dont think I ever had a pre OS time as its just a way I picked up from my Nan and Mum etc...

Do miss the days when me and OH were pre kids and not living together where we'd go shopping, he'd treat me to an outfit and dinner and book us a hotel, ahhh romance:rolleyes:,
But saying that he makes a point of doing it for my bday and my mum has the kids, so it still happens though not as often.

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)

The only thing that I miss from my old life would be I can't justify buying clothes, (let's not even talk shoes :D) like I use to. But this is more from finishing work and becoming a fulltime domestic goddess living on an island. Population - 300 people who count being dressed up as wearing shorts and no shirt. Mind you, I do draw the line & wear a shirt. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • << I have not mentioned love. I do not believe love exists.>>

I feel sorry that you feel that Reverbe, to me love does exist, as I love both of my children dearly, and all of my seven my grandchildren very much . I adored and loved my late husband for alomst 40 years and miss him still, after over 6 years of being a widow .To me love is far more important than wealth or riches, and without it life would be a very sad place. I hope you manage to resolve your problems, and I for one would never presume to judge anyone for their beliefs
I hope you fimd peace within yourself

  • I have gradually cut down and cut out things in order to save money and keep the bills down and I wondered what everyone else does?

My main one is cutting out butter and marg, I make puddings without it and dry fry savoury food and have not missed it at all and neither has the family. Luckily its good for you to reduce fats so its a double whammy but the problem occurs when you cut out things you like.

What do other mse ers cut out and not miss?

I also don't like or use butter/marge, but I still keep it around for dumplings. I cut out lots of things but often substitute for a cheaper alternative, ie the only red meat I have is minced and I have chicken legs/thighs rather than breast.

I swapped cereal for porridge, it's much cheaper and means I don't need milk(but still get a carton of soy once every few weeks to cook) just a spoon of sugar or whatever jam/spread/fruit needs to be used up. A big bowl of porridge w/tsp sugar costs me 4.2p!
Cheese, i'm lactose intolerant so cutting out the only dairy I can have (hard cheese) doesn't bother me. Cheese doesn't make a meal 90% of the time, it's just an extra.
For a long time I cut out bread, now I make my own from some cheap bread mix I got from approvedfoods.
Salad, I love it but lettuce/toms are expensive and don't keep well, so instead I make salads & coleslaw from cabbage, carrot & onion.

    Television - save around £140-odd a year.
  • I cut out the Virgin Media box and the landline phone. Saves me a fortune amd surprisingly the kids don't miss it as much as I thought they would. We have been playing board games, reading and the 15 year old has been revising for GCSE exams without me shouting/threatening!!! Saved on electric too as sometimes the box was only on as a matter of habit!!
