Has anyone had a hysterectomy?

I had the whole lot removed twelve years ago due to medical necessity - pre-cancerous changes - and have never looked back.
Mine was done laparoscopically (tiny slits in bikini hair line and creases of the belly button) and talking with other women, this method does seem to give a quicker recovery. It took three days. In on day one, op on day two and home on day three. Once home, I just took it easy day by day. If you don't force it, your own body will tell you just what you can and can't cope with. Sudden weariness is often the useful sign telling you it's time you stopped and took a rest!
Referring to your particular concern, I had everything removed and can truthfully say that it made no difference whatever to my lovemaking responses, and [not that I'm boasting, mind you] had a very gentle but perfectly normal climax only three weeks later. What the doctor would have said, I don't know but at my six week post-op check, when she said the intercourse was now permissible, I just smiled ....
Good luck and hope your op goes so well that in a few weeks, it will be you on here giving other women reassurance based on your own straight forward experience.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I feel a lot better, you really do read horror stories on the net! Aggghhh I almost cancelled my op but my hubby gave me a good talking to! He is very understanding and I am sure we will be able to work through things - should they arise! So nice to hear some positive outcomes and I do look forward to having holidays with out the dreaded time of the month - all the pain etc0

I had a hysto when I was in my early 40's and like others, best thing that could have happened even though it was done through the sun roof
I managed all 'normal' actiivities after 4 weeks, including driving/part time work/housework/hanky panky.
I was given a tip for the first hanky-panky session - have an alcoholic drink to get you in the mood and feeling relaxed......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

worriedsik, I hope you don't mind me asking but how did you manage to get your HRT?
I went to the docs and said I was tired and my hair is terrible lately, I think my ovaries are finally failing?
I had full abdominal hyst. about 5 years ago.
Anyway, my doc said 'What do you expect, you are biologically an old lady now' ????!!!

I was 27, completed my family and knew for a long time that it was the only solution to my problem. I was petrified of being cut open. My only previous time in hospital was giving birth naturally and prayed I didn't need a Caesarian.
I found getting over the deep cut took longer than having a natural childbirth, such as not being able to drive for 6 weeks nor doing any heavy lifting and getting out of doing lots of jobs:D, but didn't have the bruising 'down there' which meant I could have sex sooner than when I had natural childbirth.
As I was quite young, they recommended leaving the ovaries but as I had severe endometriosis, my ovaries were still producing hormones and it did a lot of damage to my innards which necessitated the removal of my ovaries 4 years ago.
On hindsight it might have been better to have had it all out the first time around and have some mild HRT for osteoporosis prevention. I was automatically sterilised and had no periods but still had PMS. Now the ovaries have gone, the PMS is minuscule and feel so much better again. I must be creating hormones somewhere as my osteoporosis scan showed it as normal for my age.
I also had SEVERE PMS/PMDD so tried everything before taking this drastic step.

If you need a hysterectomy, I would recommend you have it done. You will feel much better and when you are over the op, you will have a great time together;)An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

If you had a full hyst that would have put you straight into menapause !!
I didnt go on the HRT straight away but about a year after the hyst ( still had overies ) i was feeling rubish tired all the time and the night sweats were horendous , i wouldnt call them sweats they were more like a burning inferno from my feet to my head lol with my scalp soaking wet
so i went to docs and got a test done for hormone count i think it was , there had to be three blood tests takin sort off begining middle and end of cycle if i remember correctly
My levels were nearly none existant so got put on the HRT and felt better
maybe you should go to docs and ask him/her to give you a test on your hormones.
i have went through all the thoughts etc on HRT the scare storys ! but its best for me to take it as i already had problems with my joints etc and i truly could not bear the night sweats/fire lol
HTH & go and ask the doc againResolve not to be poor, Whatever you have , Spend less.0 -

Bebsie can I give you a man's perspective. My wife had to have the "full works" due to a pre-cancerous condition (thank goodness it was diagnosed in time). We went through all the traumas you are and it is very understandable.
Bottom line is we have a full and enjoyable sex life, which my wife tells me is as good, if not better, than ever!
You go for it girl and don't worry!0
