OS Daily Thread - Sunday 13th September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 13th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
Kitchenbunny - lovely to have you and your OS-iness with us!
Sistercas - Hope your daughters feel better soon hon
But it IS enough honey. I can only imagine how frustrating it is at times to feel you cannot get through to him, but you know in your heart that you do reach him as much as he can allow. You work so hard with him and are such a great mum and you should be very proud of yourself. If offloading on here helps then you should feel free to do it as much as you like!
Had another lovely lovely sunny day yesterday though Picked another dozen or so big tomatoes - no cherry ones are ripe yet though there are hundreds of them!
We collected all our rockery stones and pebbles from the lovely lady on Freecycle. She lived in a gorgeous old house with a fabulous garden. It took us two trips as there were a lot more more than we envisaged. Have an enormous pile of them now in my garden and one exhausted OH! :rotfl:
Dinner today will have to be decided shortly as we made the spanish Omelette yesterday afternoon and ate it all!! I blame all the lifting and carrying my OH had to do - it was exhausting watching him so I ate more.:p

Hester - Well thank you very much! That was a lovely compliment. And I think I love my purple fence even more now so many people on here have said they like it!
Bargainbird - not sure which avatar you meant as I had a special one just for the 24hrs of 9/11, but thank you anyway! I belong to about three 'Freecycles' as I am in the middle of them all almost, but the stones were on the Torbay one.
Cranky - sorry to hear about your sisters run of bad luck I am sure a present from you will really lift her spirits and who better to help her learn how to be more moneysaving than you who is doing so well?
Pippa - sorry about your friend that must have been an awful shock for you.
honey. Tris is.... ummm... well he is on new meds which make him a bit spacy and a bit depressed. It's only short term to help wean him off one batch of painkillers which he has become too dependant on but it's hard work talking to him. I just feel so bad for him.
Maitane - Your new home sounds gorgeous! Hope your throat feels better after the 'anaesthetic'

Good morning MSD. Lots of (((hugs))) for Tris - life is so hard for him.
Welcome to Kitchenbunny.
(((Hugs))) to you and your DS, NoahsPennilessMum - it must be so difficult for you.
Hope all the poorly ones are feeling better.
Well, I didn't get a chance on here yesterday - we had visitors so went out for most of the day, had lunch, found a second-hand charity-type shop and had a good rummage around, and then went for a walk around a lake. It was a bit breezy but nice and sunny. It's definitely cooling down here now, especially first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Our visitors arrive from the UK a week today, so we are starting to get organised - still have to finish off another bedroom, and it hasn't got all the walls yet! I must finish off the set of baby clothes I've been knitting - our visitors' daughter is expecting a baby in November, so I want to get them finished so they can take them back with them. It's also my Mum's birthday soon so I've knitted her a scarf and want to make a crochet pin cushion for her, too. I need to keep the pressies light to keep the postage costs to the UK down. I've bought a lovely very French-looking 'Chocolat' tin which is the perfect size to fit photos in, so I must also print off some photos and will add them to her pressies.
Lunch today will be the HM tomato soup that I made the other day, and dinner will be roast pork, leeks, carrots, potatoes and gravy.
Well, the kettle is singing my song. See you all later.
Have a great Sunday.

Morning Mioliere!
I wondered where you were yesterday, we missed you!
I often watch 'Sea, Sand and Bargainhunting' where they send people out to France to buy goods to re-sell over here and they always seem to find the most amazing things in French markets and second hand shops. Did you buy anything in your rummage?
Treacle fat cat is hassling me for more food (only fed her about 30 mins ago). She likes to eat little and often so I better go sort her out and then come back and see if Tris has logged on.

Morning.
All is well here, 3 days of lovely sunshine and more to come I hope.
I have a few projects on the go such as painting windows and harvesting my honey. I hope to progress some of them today.
Home grown sweetcorn for tea and a burger or 2. Found some sweetcorn dishes at the car boot which will be perfect.

Good Morning Ladies, Thankyou for my warm welcome yesterday. I only popped on quickly as I was taking the kiddlies to the farm. We had a lovely day and watched the piglets race and the Miss and Master had a horse ride, they really enjoyed themselves.
We had a chilli last night the first one I have ever made, the kiddlies loved it and so did we, I used the leftover bedrock mince so it was quick and easy after a busy day.
Roast leg of lamb today and then i will use that over several meals this week.
I have one wash on the line and I have stripped DS bed as he is up with me, the others are still snoozing. Dp is back off to work today so i plan to get some housework done and start the week a tidy one.
Hugs to all who need them.
Have a lovely day.

Good morning
Just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone. Haven't posted much recently - retreated into my shell a bit and would have felt a fraud anyway because life has not been very OS lately . Anyway, I'm now on holiday and already catching up on lots of odd jobs. The veg patch has been tidied, loads of washing and food shopping done, and I've even dragged my very dusty bike out of the shed and cleaned it up ready to use.
Yesterday's weather was glorious here. We went for a walk in the evening and picked loads of sloes so will be doing sloe gin today ready for Christmas.
Dinner today will be corned beef hash, and we're packing up for a few days away.
Diva - hope Tris feels better soon with his new meds
NPM - Having followed this thread for a while I think you're a fantastic mum!
Hope everyone's ok, (((hugs))) to those in need.

Morning everyone.
NPM - I have PM'd you. Just wanted to send you some hugs
Diva - Hope Tris weans off his old meds soon, it can't be pleasant feeling spaced out all the time.
kjsam - you should post if you want to, I am probably not as OS as some people but that doesn't stop me
Mioliere - you sound so busy, how do you fit it all in?!!
Sun is out, hopefully going to be another lovely day again. Got loads of paperwork for childminding up to date yesterday and even did my accounts so felt prettyabout that. Paperwork is the one thing I know if I don't keep at it I shall fall down on so it's an effort to do but I feel better for doing it. Especially since I know Ofsted are likely to ring and book an inspection some point this year and I don't want a week of late nights panicking that I haven't got everything covered eek!
Going to take the kids swimming this morning and then see how the day pans out. Chicken for tea although I fancy making a chicken and leek pie, our local pub does a fantastic one.
All my tomatoes are finally ripening. Only problem is they're not terribly tasty. Was wondering if I could make some sort of chutney/relish out of them once I have enough. Never done that before so would be an adventure!
anyone got any easy-ish suggestions for a tomato relish? Bear in mind these are cherry toms so skinning them isn't going to be easy (and actually makes me feel queasy - i think it's the feel of the flesh)
Anyway going to head off and get kids ready for swimming.
Have a good day all OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all,
its bright and beautiful here again :T, I have our bedding on the line, and as soon as dd is up I will wash hers too.
DD is off out with her dad again today, he has three children from his first wife, all grown up boys now, and its one of their birthday's today, so they are off out to watch him play football, and then for lunch.
OH and I have some jobs to do here, mow the lawn etc, and then we will get out for a walk.
Steak and kidney pie for dinner (i don't like the texture of kidney, but do like the taste, so I pick mine out and give it to OH
) with mash and veg.
Bitsy I recently made tomato chutney for the first time, got the recipe off of the BBC website, I would advise peeling the toms though, otherwise you would have bits of skin floating around _pale_, I suppose you could chop the toms really small and then make the chutney
I went on the hunt for jam jars yesterday, they are very expensive to buy, so I ended up in sainsbugs, where I bought 4 large jars of their value curry sauce for 4p a jar, I will decant and freeze the sauce, for use later, and wash and reuse the jars :T, its not the nicest curry sauce, but it will do, infact its a bit like the sauce you get from the chippy or chinese, and OH loves it
I also picked up a HUGE chocolate fudge cake for £2, which will do us for puddings for a few nights :T
Going to have toast and hm jam for breakfast, and more tea
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone!
Lovely sunny day here, which is great as we have a bbq at OH's mum's today, his auntie is visiting from Canada so it'll be a big family gathering - and the first time I'll have met his sis! Eek!
Have been away in France for a few days, was lovely and hot and a real break. Great Ryanair bargain (redruby you can inform John that we were allowed on the plane, so it really is a genuine offer!) and the hotel was cheap and nice as well, we booked that through the ryanair site as well. Only thing was the food and drink were really expensive, and there weren't that many places that served really good food, there was a distinct lack of vegetables other than on pizzas! Aside from that we did have a lovely time.
OS stuff came back with a vengeance when we arrived home, kids dad had been staying in my house looking after them, and other than washing up not a lot of housework had been done! So have been hoovering, cleaning, tidying, washing, etc! As a result there shouldn't be too much to do today hopefully!
We also did the garden when we got back, loads of cutting back and tidying was needed, now have lots of black sacks of waste to take to the tip later, will drop off when take ds to rugby - oh joy the season has started again!
Not sure about meals today, me and oh are at a bbq, girls are all at friends houses, though I shall be collectiong dd3 before the bbq so she'll probably come with us, ds will eat after his match, but will probably be enticed by a burger to accompany us as well. Collecting dd1 and dd2 later afternoon, so will do a quick tea for them I think when they get back. OH and I are then off this evening to a birthday dinner for a friend, ds will be babysitting and hopefully they will all be industriously completing their homework!
Must make a meal plan later, and pop into the shops to get some packed lunch stuff, seem to have run out of ham, so need to get a joint to pop into the SC. Also need flour else we shall be breadless this week, my supplies seem to have evapourated! Will ask dd2 nicely if she will whip up a few muffins for the lunchboxes as well. Have lots of apples though, my tiny weeny apple tree was doubled over under the weight of fruit, so picked it all, and they are lovely sweet apples.
Going to grab some brekkie now and have a catch up, hope everyone has a good day xx
ps I got the Economy Gastronomy book, it seems really good, though I've yet to try the recipes, but a good read anyway if anyone is thinking of buying it!
pps if you are ever offered tickets for Puppetry of the Penis then snap them up, we went last night and I'm still giggling over it!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
morning all:D
Thank you all for your kind comments:o I think what got to me yesterday was DS saying "I hate you" several times:rolleyes:.....i know deep down he is just frustrated by his condition and that is what he is angry at not me, but it is still hard to hear.
He was up early again and has been looking at Michael Jackson videos on YouTube to copy the dance routines:cool:
Seems in a better mood today so fingers crossed. We are off to a softplay soon as it is a safe place for him to get rid of some energy and OH and I will have a bacon butty, sausage one for DS.
Roast lamb in cider for lunch later today which I am looking forwrd to.
MSD we have lots of cherry toms and they have only just started going red in the last couple of weeks. Hope Tris`s condition evens out a little soon and he feels more settled on the new meds.
Maitane your house sounds fab:D
well off to get ready for softplay..what joy;)
ps has anyone heard from SunnyGirl? odd that she just disappeared0 -
Morning all,
Happy Belated Birthday Mrs Mix :bdaycake:
The weather has been lovely this weekend. DD has been here and DS1 came for the morning today. I had just made a batch of jam drops. Bad timing as most of them are gone now.Did some gardening this arv and some visitors arrived bearing a pumpkin & a few limes. I didn't have any pumpkin left so that was handy. I tried to give them some eggplant but they said no. Drat.
DH has the day off tomorrow. I want to sort through my book case. I've got a few to donate to make room for a few more. We have a small community library on this island. I don't go very often but do donate books. I really should go down for a nosy one day. Tea is leftovers. I took some soup out the freezer & I've got some tea last night that I'll cook up with toast & an egg. I got one egg today. I had to buy a dozen on Friday as the pair of them had stopped laying.
NPM Ditto.
Pippa Sorry to hear about your friends death. <hugs>
 to any new posters & off course those naughty lurkers that don't post.not forgetting the odd stalker that Haribo picks up.
