But if one doesn't respond, then thay may just move onto someone else?
I have to say, I have never been on the receiving end of anything innapropriate on this site...ever.
All lovely Metrosexual, gentlemen on here.
Snap!
They just contact me for boring intellgent conversation (or go the other way and send me a message as if I am completely mentally deficient)...I mean that is ok but a bit of chatting up would be good too!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I don't really post on any other sites. Don't know how people have the time, my OH thinks I spend far too much tie on MSE as it is.
My only other guilty internet pleasure is reading general cr*ap about anything that comes into my head. The past few weeks my 'topic' has been Gurdjieff. But I don't like leaving too much of myself on tinterweb as you never know when it may come back to bite you professionally. MSE is tame, informative and fun. I can't even bear facebook really although friend obligations require a sign-in once in a while so i'm not forgotten.
Oh and i've never had any come-ons from anyone on here by PM although Chucky did follow me around for a while last year dissing everything I said, no matter what it was.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
Use the one ID everywhere I post - on one forum the name was already taken so I have had to vary it slightly.
As for online personality - same as offline personality . I value the anonymity here as it enables me to be more open on some MSE boards and with some posters in PM's.
I really don't get the sockie thing. At one time there was a lengthy thread in the 'Arms' about a disaster my family suffered. I ventured on to read, was shocked , distraught even, my mistake. For one evening thought about creating a new identity in order to respond (to use this one would have revealed me in real life), but did not do so.0 -
We can't agree amongst ourselves never mind creating more personas. :j:j:j0

Purely for fun until Ms Kool moves it - all votes are anonymous but I would be interested in peoples thoughts on the whys...
As this thread is just satisfying my curiosity I am 'for one time only' going to do a NDG and thank everyone who replies. Particularly interested in people who feel they are not the same person on here as in real life and in those who post on here under multiple user names - what do they feel this achieves?
I usually sign up to forums as Generali and I am who I am, I don't invent a personality for the interweb.0 -
There's only one of me on here, though I do have different names on different forums. I couldn't change my personality if I wanted to, and definitely don't see the point in pretending to be something/someone else.
I don't see the point of Facebook/MySpace type social networking sites where everyone knows who you are either. I think at heart I'm a private person, I don't tell my closest friends what I'm up to half the time, they don't even know I'm here, even though I know some of them post. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I have only the one user name as my memory isnt up to any more. However googling it will only bring up mainly the elephant I am named after(as Im a childrens bookseller), or Mr Fudd whom I am not.

I'd thought about creating an identity as a female in PoF.
to see what other men write in initial emails, just to get some tips
on what is good and what is bad.
Seems a bit cruel though to anyone who may take the time to write.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I know of many that would post online with various identities, thats what the web is about to half the users isn't it?
I just post as I am though won't be heard until I'm accepted as part of the forum - like real life. There are people that are familiar to others online and resond to eachother on a regular basis, they tend to dominate most forums but you have to ask to they ever go out for a walk or read a book, or indeed have any other people in their lives???
You can often tell by the amount of posts they've written over, sometime many years - people are rewarded for this in the amount of stars they get, often akin to staircasing. ie the longer you've been on and the more you've contributed - the higher up you are and more renowned.
That doesn't mean to say you are any the wiser, more popular nor more interesting than new comers.
Socially, it's an interesting observation0
