UK Freecycle renamed "Freegle"

ours in york hasnt changed so far, do you know which groups will be switching ?- dont want my posts modded by someone thousands of miles away
That was the impression I got!!! Someone perhaps thousands of miles away who uses sometimes unusual language structures and clearly has an american spell checker on their pc., says **** borough, rather than Borough of *****, uses z's instead of s. Has there been a takeover by another country, keen to harvest data from former Freecycle users? Its being promoted in my local neighbourhood website and links being distributed. But the english language is not authentic enough in the instance I quote0 -
most of the groups that change have exactly the same staff/mods. They've changed mainly because they don't want the rules/policies to be set by someone thousands of miles away.0

I got the impression that the "person" who was promoting a local "freegive" site was not a disenchanted uk freecycler, I got a strong impression this person was not in the UK though, could other countries be using the current disruption and confusion about Freecycle to gain a foothold and "harvest" data from former Freecycle users?
I can understand if UK Freecyclers are unhappy with the US regime; but anarchy is not the answer and there are non-scrupulous countries ready to slip into the breach.0 -
Sorry for dragging this thread back from the dead... is there a sensible alternative to the Freecycle/Freegle conglomerate? I originally quit the Wirral freecycle group because of the ludicrously OTT and "cliquey" moderating and general bad attitude of one (at least) of the moderators; imagine my dismay when I find that the local Freegle group is, in fact, the old freecycle group...0

Alternatively, most of the local papers I have known have had a 'free ads' section, where you could advertise for free items under a certain value. And I remember that sometimes items would say "free to a good home".
Or maybe netmums? Might depend what sort of things you want to give away.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
There is a list of groups that are all now Freegle or are under the Freegle umbrella on the Freegle website. Including ours in Thurrock! Best decision we made in switching as it hasn't made any difference to our members or to the numbers of members joining!
Google 'ilovefreegle' as i can't post a link as am newish.
A few stats:
UK Freegle Groups: 224
UK Freegle Members: 1,003,020
Our groups are thriving well and blossoming by the day! Freegle are getting some really positive coverage and they have just won their first award too! You can find more info on the webpage :-)

Gloucester and Stroud have gone over to Freegle, Swindon is still Freecycle.
It's a pity that the software couldn't be changed so you could change an offered to a taken etc.Happy chappy0 -
I'm just about to give up on my freegle group, people reply to my ads saying they really want something and then never bother to come and collect, I'm really teed off today.
One person was supposed to have come last thursday, then they emailed the next day and just said they would come then instead (no apology!) then finally turned up at 9.20 last night when I had my pjs on. I've been waiting since Monday for someone to come and get another lot, totally fed up with that as I've put the stuff out ready and have to bring it in every time the weather looks like it is going to rain. A second eprson just hasn't bothered to come and get a sky box and a third for books said they desperately needed them and could i bag them rather than box them, and that was the last I heard.
I hate dumping perfectly good items, but I am running out of room in the hall with all this stuff that was supposed to have been collected days ago.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Having had yet another person fail to collect the stuff I've decided that freegle isn't for me, it can all go to landfill tomorrow as I can't just keep storing it waiting for people who tell me they desperately need the stuff but never bother to come and get it. The fact that they can't even bother to email me with an excuse for not coming is just another annoyance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
