I think Freegle is meant to be FREE Giving Locally Easily, but only because someone said on another thread!

  • Hi I'm a Mod/Coowner of a UK Freecycle group, and basically, nothing is changing except the NAME of the group you're a member of. It is still a Yahoo group, you are still a member & still use the same Yahoo login.
It really has got to the point where we're all (UK group Mods & owners) sick of being told what we can & can't do, even if what they're telling us to do doesn't, can't & won't work here in the UK. We're even more sick of anyone that speaks out or questions what we're told to do being gagged & silently removed no matter how hard they've worked on their groups & how much time & effort they've dedicated to the cause.
We've decided that we don't want to run groups like this & won't stand by & let our groups/members & our co-moderators be treated this way, so we're breaking away. Groups will be run the same way as they ever were, with the same moderating teams, but local rules may be relaxed a little as we're no longer bound by Stupid regs dictated to us from people in the US that are unwilling to work with us or listen to us. :-):T

I agree about the name, I should have thought at least they could have made up one that seemed to mean something. Stiil, where I am it's still Freecycle.

Who the hell's Deron Beal and what's he got to do with it?
They had to find a name quick which didnt infringe our copyright laws incredibly difficult.....the wombles was suggested lol......Our freecycle group lost its moderator last week i think the old yahoo groups are safe its the my freecycle groups at risk. Deron is the american founder he gives his lifes story on the freecycle search website under owners i think. He just wants his rules his way and that doesnt go down well in the uk but if you dont comply youre gone it seems.
  • Yep, basically, if Deron doesn't like you, or you dare to question him, you're gone.
Very difficult to come up with a new name so quickly but
Freegle = Free Giving Locally Easily

Check out Freegle central website for latest updates/info/enquiries. ( .org as can't post full link)
  • Blimey, good job i read this!! When trying to access my group i'm now getting 'Sorry, this group is available to members ONLY.
You are not allowed to access this group.'

I'm amazed there has been no admin...But a Freegle group for my area does appear to have been set up...with 1 MEMBER!!! It's going to take a while to get all the members back on there.
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

Hello, I dont mean to be insulting and call you stupid but...er.um...:p lol

You have likely not left your group & dont need to re register.

Go to a Yahoo group page and top r/h corner - select "my groups" and your freegle group will be listed there, the name has been changed is all, the group remains the same. (files & look will be different).

You may also find some relaxing of some of Freecycles rules too, dependant upon your local group.

I justr woke to find the Bury group had gone & been replaced with a dummy/marker group - but found the real group in a few mouse clicks.

Power to Freegle (what a daft name!)
Deron Beal is a pratt! :p:p

    Hello, STUPID here!:wave::doh:

I have found it now thanks. (it wasnt hard to find at all really):o

I have always used a shortcut to go directly to the message page before, so I was just seeing the page saying you are not a member of this group.

    Thanks again.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”
