  • (((hugs))) for Pippa & Crankys sis.

Celyn - tomorrow will be a better day :D

Quite warm here now, just about to get washing in. Lasagne made everything prepped just got to be put in the oven later.

Popped into M&S food and the £10 deal was on, wanted to get some desserts from there anyway so bought 2 meal deals both with Oakham chickens. So one in the fridge for tomorrow and another for the freezer.

Just about to menu plan but going to have a look at the weather forcast first. That Parmesan Chicken looks lovely Thriftlady - let us know how it was & may try it next week.

Celyn - I forgot to say the other day how much I loved your cake! I do hope your stuff from the US turns up has your OH got used to the idea of damson jam? They do use some very old-fashioned sounding methods in Germany - when my brother had sciatica recently he was prescribed sulphur baths! I suppose it must help or they wouldn't keep on using it.

Thank you :) I have to make one for our head of department now  He really very very famous in my field (he is responsible for the drugs on the market for treating the diseases we work on for example) and I found out yesterady his sister in law makes cakes for a living. I am a bit nervous about it to be honest. I have got dimensions of the building from the architects model in my office and lots of photos. I've done buildings before, but I'm still nervous.

OH is eating the jam :D I labelled some of it as "tiny plum" :D in a more devious moment.

Sulphur baths, that's horrible!? I was told salt baths for atopic excema whilst in Germany (no doubt extracted from his mothers "fruit-loops-are-us" homeopathy monthy subscription, and it dried out my skin no end  - this was apparently "bringing out the ailment" rather than irritating it to a cracked and bleeding mess. Don't get me started on the food wand, the laxative tonic that the vampire woman in the crystal cave gave me to correct my impure blood and the tesla plate (which I am using as a plant stand - and the plant is not growing any better than the control plant - which is a genetic clone of the plant under scrutiny and is not sitting on the 25 x 25 cm piece of violet aluminium sheeting that captures and stores cosmic energy:rotfl:). Unless of course, it has non-local effects... *drat - failed experimental design*

I might see if I can use it to locate my missing guppy :o

Mad as a box of frogs, all of them!

OH is fairly normal - it actually annoys him greatly as he works in medical research so doesn't have a great deal of time for tree-hugging-crystal-waving con-artists (his words). He calls it "distraction for the worried well" which I guess explains a lot. You just have to keep the patient amused whilst nature cures the problem, or they forget what aches and move onto something else. :) It's a huge market though.

I do hope your son gets something sorted out - I know these specialist courses can be really popular. Are there other courses in the area that he might prefer? If he wasn't sure about the evening course but doesn't want to reduce his working hours, there might be some day-release type schemes around.

I want to start a shop on folksy, but I need a name and I don't know what to call myself - I make an array of things, so don't want to needle myself in a particular area. Crafttestdummies is the only workable suggestion at the moment. A friend suggested fluffylemming  but I am about the least fluffy person on this earth, so it isn't really me. :o

Celyn I have a German MIL and she's as mad as a mad thing from crazyville too. :D

Have been very MSE and bargainous today. As my favourite Wolf Blass was reduced by 50% to £3 per bottle in Tesco I decided to double up £25 of clubcard vouchers so bought £50 worth. :D Also saved and extra £2.50 for buying 18 bottles so got £108 worth of wine for nowt. :money:Added to this were a few more vouchers I had so my shopping originally came to £99 but was reduced to £36 after discounts. :j:beer::D
Had already doubled up £25 of wine vouchers last week to make £50 and also spent them on half price wine. :o Can we seen a pattern emerging? :D

Have walked the dog along the beach, done the dishes, prepped the tea, cleaned the decking and hoovered and now have opened the wine so it's a fair bet that I'll do little else today.
Have managed to keep the dog off OH's leg, good job too as he's covered from head to toe in white paint, and have had the pleasure of listening to him whining that his eyebrows are going grey. Being a good OSer I soon fixed him up with a brow felt tip. ;):D

Hope things work out for your DS Ivyleaf. x

  • Well, I just got back from a blackberry huntin' and boy, there's some nice big ones out there. There were loads of them :) We've come back with quite a nice haul, ready to turn into stacks of crumbles and pies to see us through the winter. A friend also said she'd have a look at getting some cooking apples for me too, so that put a biiiig smile on my face. Got a lot of scratches over my hands and arms though! Worth it, as the sunshine and the walk were amazing. My friend and I are planning a trip to the same spot to get some elderberries next time too :)

Thank you for the lovely welcome; I feel at home here. It's nice :) Tonight, I'm going to make a huge lasagne (better get started soon though, I think!) and relax with a good film and a couple of those chocolate puds - hot chocolate mousses. Oh yeah, and a hot bath :D While the lasagne is in the oven, so will some of the cooking apples I bought, those squishy plums and a few of the blackberries to make more crumble filling :) Mmm, mini plum and ginger crumbles, and mini apple and blackberry ones ... mmm

Hope everyone has a lovely evening, and I'll be back tomorrow, if you'll have me! :D

Haven't been here in ages but just wanted to wish Mrs Mix a happy birthday! I'm glad you had a good day.

Lasagne is bubbling away in the oven as it's dd's last night at home before she goes back to uni and that was her special request for the 'last supper'. :D I think we'll all really miss her. She makes a helluva mess but she's got a great sense of humour and there's been a lot of laughter this summer.

Pippa, sending you a hug, what a dreadful shock for you.
Haribo, has dbil washed the brown felt tip off his eyebrow yet?

    Hi everyone,

It's been a quiet wek, partly because I hurt my back last weekend helpng DS and GF move into their new home. I wasn't even lifting anything heavy in case I hurt my back!! I do miss him , even though he generates a lot of work. His GF has just been offered a training contract to become a solicitor with a very high powered London firm and they've told her they will pay 75% of the course she had to do last year for which she needed a £10,000 loan.

The main reason I've been so unproductive this week is THriftlady's fault. I've become completely hooked on the pioneerwoman site - there is so much to read on it.

Happy birthday Mrs Mix and so sorry Pippa for your loss.

Redruby I nearly picked up some river cobbler the other day as I want to start having more fish. how do you cook it? does it have bones in?

Ok, we have just had it, with some bread and butter, and grilled tomatoes, it was delish, and not one bone, we had fillets, I would get it again, and there is enough left to make a fish pie another day :T
  • Hi Chums,
Happy Birthday Mrs Mix, & hugs for Pippa on losing her friend.
Ivyleaf: I went to the Weald of Kent Show today with my sis-in-law and we had a great day. Did you watch the cookery demo? We did we saw the sea bass on at 1.00.p.m and it was delicious. We had a wander around the food hall and I bought some bits and my sis-in -law treated me the a nice jar of Morello cherry jam.We also bought some nice cheese and I'm going to put them into my freezer. I saw the cotton shirts, and I was quite tempted, but decided that I would splash out on a nice picture instead.
It was a beautiful day and we sat in the sunshine and had our picnic listening to the free music. Sis -in-law had to go home tonight as she is house watching for her DD for a week.
I have some cooked cold chicken left over from yesterday so I think I will curry it and portion it up for the freezer.
Hope everyone has a good week-end
    Cheers JackieO xx
