Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 12th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
Lou1981 -welcome2.gif it's great to have you with us.
hgballoons.gifMrs_Mix - have a good day
Bitsy - pushing three kids must be really hard work! Be careful of your back hon.
Essex - I have a girl who comes to cut my hair at home and I love it!
Raggydoll - your "crispy bacony cheesy jacket potatoes" actually made my mouth water as it involved three of my fave foods!
Reverbe - No, my OH doesn't mind as we go to bed together and I just get up extra early. I am then able to see him off to work later and of course, during the week when I go back to bed (around 0700/0800), he is at work anyway so it doesn't affect him.
Haribo - thank you for that. I know it must look odd to new posters on here!
Valk - I had to laugh at you sticking it all in his bed - what a great way to teach them to use a bin!!:rotfl:
Redruby - Thank you very much xx
Dizzy - glad the interview went well and will keep my fingers crossed for you
Maitane - Oh your poor throat, hope it is improving.

Cabbages looking worse for wear as they are covered in caterpillars and baby snails.I think I might have to admit defeat with them and bung them in the compost bin as there are more holes than cabbage left lol.
I had to give up on my cabbages for the same reason, they just won the battle in the end.

MSD - Love the lavender fence its very sophisticated and glamorous and soooo you. Lesleyxx
No reason to repeat the last part of your quote except I LOVED it...:o giggle.gif Thank you honey! :rotfl:
Today will be a gardening day as the weather is supposed to continue to be lovely. I have more winter bedding to go out and pots to clear. We are also going to pick up a load of rockery stones which we were lucky enough to win on Freecycle.
Meal wise; I am also going to make a nice big spanish omelette with corned beef and lots of home grown veg and happy eggs. Going to use a half fat cheddar for the first time so hope I still get the flavour I like. I always put a good sprinkle on top.
Hope the weekend starts well for everyone. Big squidgy hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

morning MSD hope you heard from Tris

    happy birthday mrs Mix

been up a while with DD2 she is really hot and crying with the pain in her throat , she keeps coughing poor thing. I've given her max dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen , so I'm hoping she will settle down soon

no plans for today except looking after the girls. I really need to strip the beds and do some washing though

hope everyone has a lovely weekend
  • Good morning!
MSD I hope you have a good day in the garden.
Sistercas I hope your dd's improve soon.

I'm off to work shortly. I have my packed lunch and no money so can't be tempted if someone goes for bacon sarnies from the caff.
I need to have a quick tidy and clean when I get home, then its off to mums for tea-roast pork today, yummy! I have a friend coming this evening but am hoping he doesn't stay too late as I've been up early and the cold that I've been fending off for over a week has finally arrived-lovely!
Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning everyone.

Sistercas - your poor DD's - not have swine flu so far but can only imagine how poorly they must be feeling. Sending them lots of hugs.

Diva - enjoy your garden today

Maitane - I love Snowdonia - Cwm Idwal is just stunning :D

ravylesley - my caulis have lost the battle too with the caterpillars. I have 2 broccoli plants still fighting and giving me side shoots but the caulis look like swiss cheese they have so many hols.

Well I was absolutely cream crackered after mindee went home. I'd pushed 3 children (2 in double buggy, one on buggy board on the back) for around 1 and a half hours in total (local Sure Start Centre was a waste of time but shan't go down that rant ;)). I was on my feet ALL day and by the evening my knees were killing me. My body is giving up on me already!!!! For once it wasn't my back that was tetchy ;)
Still we had loads of fun, out in the garden, went to the park - am suprised I am not the colour of a lobster having been in the sun so much.

DD had me up from 5am. I tried cuddling her back to sleep around 6am but to no avail. Still we had a nice little bonding cuddle in the rocking chair :D

So I've got some childminding paperwork to complete (kids permitting), H is working and I have washing to do, beds to strip, BM needs to be put on. Am trying to put off going to the supermarket until at least Monday. I spend another £10 this week when I went to do my mums shopping for her (Ok the Galaxy hot chocolate wasn't an essential although I will argue it's essential for my sanity ;)) so want to string out what we have before H gets paid.

Hugs for those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

MSD - yes I hope it all works out well, will then be a lot more convenient & cheaper.:j

Its a lovely sunny, crisp September morning day. Am just about to hang the first load of washing out on the line & jump in the bath. Have friends round for dinner tonight so going to pop into town for a couple of bits b pieces for that. Just doing lasagne j spuds & salad.

House needs a quick going over but that shouldnt take long. Have also got our boss from work delivering some logs later - then tomorrow OH can chop them up and store at the side of the house to season - am looking forward to having some open fires soon.

Need to menu plan for next week and start my tesco's online shop.

Oh & also need to plant the bulbs I bought some time ago - we havnt done these before and keep forgetting them.

    Have a great day all.x

:bdaycake::bdaycake:Happy Birthday to Mrs Mix, hope you have a great day my lovley xx

    Morning all,

Another beautiful day here, bright and sunny with a strong breeze, One of three loads of washing it about to come to an end, so will get it all on the line.

Need to have a quick tidy through this morning, hoover whole house, mop floors, and then we can get out :T, we are going for our usual saturday hike with picnic, and dd is off to town with her mates.

Thanks for all the advice re the cervical injection yesterday, we have had a good chat, and I mentioned Jade Goody, and I think that brings it home to young girls, so she has decided to have it ( well she always was going to in my mind, I just had to persuade her ;))

OH and I are having fish for tea, its that Vietnamese river cobbler (Aussie :p) that my mum got cheap for me, think I will just do it with grilled toms, and bread and butter, dd will have a veggie lasagne.

I need to get hold of some more jam jars today if possible, and I need to get more danish oil for my kitchen worktops.

Sistercas, your poor girlies, they are really going through it, I hope they start to feel better soon xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all
    Happy B'day Mrs Mix.
Diva, thankyou for starting the thread in such a cheerful fashion, I know you often do it, but thought it was about time I said thanks, I also love your purple fence.
Work is still full of joy & excitement, but as I have now decided to take legal action (not against the school) I can't post any more details on here or on my blog. Work has also been extremely busy, this has meant very little OS has been done for the last fortnight. So todays plans include lots of tidying, cleaning, shopping for food & meal planning. Fortunately the GP is on so hubby will have something to keep him busy while I go to the butchers.
Many years ago I bought some fabric from America, it was navy blue & white & was the New York skyline at night & the Twin Towers were easily seen. I used the fabric as part of a large double bed quilt I made, every time I use the quilt I think of the disaster.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Lovely Misty sunny morning here, washing today (as usual), planting daffs, and library.

DH & i cut the grass front and back last night when he got back from college so that was one job ticked off ;).

    Happy Birthday Mrs Mix champis2.gif

Sistercas I hope your dd's are better soon.

I've had a few days off :rotfl:catching up with friends and all that kind of thing that I don't usually have a chance to do when dh is away. I took my friend who has had meningitis out to lunch on Thursday.

Next week is "house week". I have a whole week to clean and declutter this tip. I am a member of freecycle, and I have a hatchback car so that I can fit things in to take to the tip. I will be pruning ds's toys as he has most things that he has ever been bought/given apart from a few things that he has given to the little boy next door.

Ds started school last week and seems to like it. He is eating a huge breakfast every morning, and is finishing his lunch all bar a mouthful or so, so that's another weight off my mind. I had my sister in Ireland on the phone last night. Her ex has had to halve her maintenance because he works in the building trade and things are really bad. My sister herself was made redundant yesterday....and her 3rd child has just been diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers. I will be sending her a parcel of goodies to try and lift her spirits a little.

    Take care all of you.

    Good Morning

I am so glad it is Saturday. I have had a really busy week at work and then spending lots of time cooking in the evenings to save some cash. I am really happy because I've managed to spend 40% less than my normal weekly spend. I made the ham and lentil soup from the grocery challenge thread, it went down a treat and lasted ages :)

I plan on going for a walk to make the most of the lovely sunny day and I'm also going to do my first weekly menu plan.

Lovely and sunny here again today, thats 3 in a row :T

Wm doing it stuff, must take advantage of this lovely weather and get it all done and out in the sunshine

Its a funny day for food on Saturday for us, we have Brekkie at Mums, Lunch at MIL's and Dinner here, I never feel like cooking when I get back though so we have something quick, Pizza usually.

Not in here much lately, been having a bad time, in a nutshell, my friend of 40 years died suddenly after a very short illness, to say we were all in shock is an understatement. She was a lovely person and will be missed soooo much.

Diva - I think this year is the worst ever for snails, and the slugs are the biggest I've ever seen yukkk (shudder) hate the things. Hows Tris doing have you managed to speak to him? Lavender fence ooo must take a look at that, love Lavender
