Redruby I nearly picked up some river cobbler the other day as I want to start having more fish. how do you cook it? does it have bones in?

The fish man in Mr T told my mum to put a k n o b of butter on and grill on both sides for a few mins, I don't know about the bones, as I've never had it before, I will let you know later xx

Pippa, how sad about your dear friend, xxxx
  • Morning all:j
Lovely and sunny here in Essex. Washing blowing gently on the line, BM on, DW on, DD still in bed:eek:
Woke early this morning so spent the morning in the kitchen with Radio 4! So far, I have made leek & potato soup, chocolate buns and sponge cake. Roasted some sad looking vegetables that were lurking at the bottom of the fridge (parsnips, aubergine, sweet potato and tomatoes). Will they freeze OK or will they go mushy? I didn't roast them until fully done.
Parents are coming over in a few moments. I'm going to take them to see my new cottage! Decided, after the shock of the planning application, that it won't really affect my view or anything so will go ahead with the purchase. I hope they like it..... Can't wait to use the woodburner!!!

Will take springy spangles down to the ford later on for a swim. They won't get many more chances to swim as the water is getting colder by the day.

Big hugs to everyone who is dealing with sadness today - and big hugs to those celebrating too.
    Have a good day

    Welcome kitchenbunny:hello:
    Happy Birthday Mrs mix
Sistercas hope the girls are improving
Pippa - so sorry to hear about your friend, what a shock for you all.
Haribo - how sweet (in more ways than one)!! Hope the dog doesn't pine too much for your OH's leg:rotfl::rotfl:

Been busy shopping, baking and quiche cooking this morning ready for the concert tonight - lovely day too so can't wait!

Had car trouble with our new (to us) car, on the way home from a run out to York last night we started loosing power and black smoke came out the back:eek: Seems it is the turbo(?) sounds expensive anyway well one quote for the part alone is £595 plus vat, so as we have only had it 3 weeks I can now foresee an argument with the garage following. Doesn't help that they are 80 miles away and obviously our car is too poorly to go to see them and they are not really responding to our phone calls - happy days (not)!

Anyway have a nice day all

Happy birthday Mrsmix :) Hope you have a great day
 kitchenbunny - welcome to OS
rosyred - happy anniversary for tommorrow
    pippa.s ((hug))
haribo :rotfl: :rotfl: You have a pair of budding Heston Blumental's there :D

Well, so much for being frugal - it's just cost me more to post birthday pressies home than it did to buy them - as the mail service is on strike they had to go byparcelforce48  - both to the same address, so I had to buy a mail bag and ship them together. I am so annoyed. The guy reckoned 3 weeks - if I was lucky - by normal first class. I wish I'd bought my nephew's present too, as that could have gone in the same bag.

The lady behind me had to send a letter special delivery to ensure it go to where it wanted to go :(

I am waiting for stuff from the US, which just isn't going to arrive, I can see it coming :(

I am at work as I have an assay plate to develop - minimum two hours work, could be up to five, depending on how tempremental the plate reader is being.

We had notification from the solicitor this morning that the request for a contested hearing has been recieved by the court. Talk about a day full of carp :(

And I seem to have lost a goldfish somewhere :(

I think I should just go back to bed. :)

have a good day all, cel x

  • Kitchenbunny welcome:wave:You can certainly bake your fruit in the oven, I do it all the time. My freezer's absolutely stuffed with stewed balckberry and apple. I love your word -OSiness:T

    My OSiness stuff for today

    Laundry

    Ironing

Picking blackberries from the garden and a few raspberries.

Stewing said fruit with some currants from the freezer to make a sort of deconstructed cheesecake thing with digestive crumbs mixed with melted butter and cream cheese beaten with crème fraîche and sugar. Looks good:drool:

Making pitta pizzas and tuna melts on pittas for lunch soon I hope. I'm waiting for them all to return from sailing.

Making shepherd's pie or keema curry for supper. Haven't made up my mind yet but it will be minced lamb in some form.

I'm planning on cooking Parmesan Chicken tomorrow.
  • Happy Birthday mrs mix, hope you have a lovely day.

Pippa, so very sorry to hear your sad news, take care xxxx

RosyRed, Happy Anniversary for tomorrow :D ( I haven't posted in well over a week, so it's greetings today, or probably not at all:rotfl:) Enjoy your celebrations;)

Haribo, I hope you ate ALL that very tasty breakfast, and didn't waste any :naughty: What sweeties your girls are :D

Lots filling my days, but it's all very boring and not all that OS so I'll decline from burdening you all :D I will just say a big thank you to whoever it was who posted about a brilliant potato masher weeks if not months ago. I saw it in John Lewis and bought one soon after. Yesterday I made a huge batch of mashed potatoes ( about triple quantity) for use last night and some dishes I'm cooking today. Trouble was I really undersalted the potatoes, and didn't notice until after I started mashing. Trying to get freshly ground salt incorporated with any other masher would have destroyed the structure, with this one it worked perfectly. For anyone else who might need one it is THIS It's pricey, but very effective.

Anyway, hope you have good weekends, wishing the poorly ones better.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • Afternoon all:j
We were all up very early due to fatchat !!!!!cat being sick all over...she kept meowing and we were telling her off then OH got up for the loo at 4am and trod in it:rotfl:....when we got downstairs she had been sick in the kitchen too....
just grabbing some lunch and thought I`d have a quick browse on here.
Have been into Sheffield to see " Going on a bear hunt" at the theatre with DS......lasted 10 mins before we had to go out as it was too loud and he couldnt cope:rolleyes: ....so we went and had snack together at M&S cafe and he chose some bath stuff at lush then came home.
Did lots of baking yesterday so none of that to do today...fish and chips for tea as a treat:j
Have had a week off this week to help DS settle back to school and have enjoyed it. Got new clothes for autumn/winter and had hair cut and coloured..feel like a new woman:rotfl:;):p.......and new bras:rolleyes: dont know if anyone else had this as they got older but my boobs are expanding rapidly.....2 cup sizes recently:eek:....I put it down to being 40 next year:o
I hope they have stopped growing now as I am still a 12 everywhere and dont want to get to the stage where I cant fit into size 12 dresses and have to get a 14 to accomodate the boobs whch wont fit me anywhere else on my body...plus I have bought my wedding dress for next year and its a 12.....dont want to be bursting out:rotfl:
Pippa sorry you have had to go through the sadness of losing your friend, thoughts and prayers are with you.

    :hello: Good afternoon!

    Mrs_mix Happy birthday hon! :bdaycake:

Hester - Good luck with it all hon x

Haribo - I think the chopped chorizo was the crowning touch :D Bless their hearts!

Pippa. S - So very sorry to hear you've lost your friend. What an awful shock for everyone. xx

NPM - Hope your furry friend is ok now. Our cat had a very distinctive miaow she used when she was about to be sick - we learned to scoop her up and rush her outside when she made that sound :p but sometimes she ran behind the sofa or somewhere else inaccessible in a hurry

Lillibet dripping - Glad you've decided to go for the cottage after all :jIt does sound gorgeous!

Moneysavingdiva - Our books about eating with diabetes say to use mature cheese so you don't have to use so much, but DH just doesn't like it! So we bought some mature low-fat cheese this week, as it tastes like medium "ordinary" cheddar. I'm not sure how it would react to being grilled on toast though as I haven't been brave enough to try!:p

Celyn - I forgot to say the other day how much I loved your cake! I do hope your stuff from the US turns up has your OH got used to the idea of damson jam? They do use some very old-fashioned sounding methods in Germany - when my brother had sciatica recently he was prescribed sulphur baths! I suppose it must help or they wouldn't keep on using it.

    Welcome to our new posters.

Lovely and sunny here so washing will be on the line shortly.

We went to the Weald of Kent Craft Show y'day and had a nice time - the weather forecast had said it would be chilly and cloudy in the South-East, but the sun was out most of the time. We took DD1 as well. Got a few things for Christmas, and a couple of seersucker shirts, which were the main reason for going as far as I was concerned - they're great for holidays as they dry much faster than teeshirts. When we got home I rang the college DS had applied to, on his behalf as he was at work. He'd been offered a place on an evening course to train as an electrician, accepted it, and was waiting for a letter telling him when to come and enrol. To cut a long story short, it seems there's been a breakdown in communication and he should have enrolled some weeks ago, and the course is now oversubscribed :( The campus office manager has emailed the "Area Program Manager" asking him to ring DS on Monday to see if anything can be sorted out, but said she was very sorry but she didn't see what could be done about it now apart from putting him on the waiting list! DS was really upset last night, but is being philosophical about it today as he's not really sure the evening course was the best idea anyway - he'd applied for the full-time one, but the tutor at the college suggested doing the evening one so he wouldn't need to reduce his working hours. So we were all upset last night and I didn't feel like eating much. Things look brighter today though, if he doesn't go to that college something else will happen instead :) and it may well be even better.

Lunch today - roast pork sarnies for me, cheese ones for DH. Dinner tonight - steak and ale pie - not HM, but hey :o Tomorrow we'll have bolognese, and that will be HM.:D
