  • I do slimming world and find it brilliant, however I can't afford it so as I have the books from when I did it before I just do the eating plan and go on the slimming world forum here (in health and beauty, everyone is in the same boat, and is really helpful.)

My friend was doing WW while I was doing slimming world and she really struggled to find as much variety and as much food to eat as me. I only do green days as I'm veggie, but on this you can eat as much fruit, veggies, pasta and rice as you want then you can have 1-2 healthy extra A which is calcium so milk or cheese eg, then 2 healthy extra B which is fibre so 2 slices of brown bread eg then 10-15 syns a day! I struggle to use my syns some days after eating free food and my healthy extras all day.

Hope you find something that works for you thouhg, it is so hard isn't it.

There is a great thread in the Health and Beauty section - weight watchers support thread. If you decide to take that route you'll get loads of support from the people on there. Good luck.

I need to loose about 4 st to get to the 'standard' for my height but want to be realistic and loose 3.

    But.......

I have fibromyalgia, which makes exercise extremely painful, and the added problem that i have uvitis, and so need to suppress my immune system, so the eating of healthy food is a confusion for me as no medic can as yet advise me on my best plan of action.

I can't even get to the gym atm to do my exercise (nhs set it up) as i can't get my electric wheelchair out the door....

I would love to do what i need to do but...seems i cannot get out of the house via a ramp...I'm not allowed one, i have a communal walkway outside my door, so a ramp for my independence would block others access to the lift.....

and walking anywhere is a no no, not that i can't be bothered, physically i just cannot

People who are looking for a lifestyle change and want a big weight loss to get them going should try Lighterlife
Please think long and hard and get medical advice before doing this. My wife did lighterlife before we met, went back on normal food, and within days was in casualty with excruciating pain they couldn't find any cause of. It is not normal to live on 500 calorie milkshakes. As someone else said, excercise more and eat better.

I recently bought a bike for the 3 miles to work, and at the annual company medical had the lungs of someone 20 years younger, as well as feeling fitter. Also it is amazing the little changes that can make a huge difference to diet.

if it hwlps i'm a 50 year old male but i’m the type who needs someone stood behind me pushing me rather than someone just giving advice as and when

As you know this is what you need, you will either need to go to a class or get a diet buddy. Is there someone else you know who will diet with you - or who you will let supervise your weigh-ins and be on the end of a phone if you feel like giving it all up?

I have lost 4 stone. No exercise as I'm not well enough. That's by eating low-carb but I don't know of any classes you could go to. This is a good place to start - http://blogg.passagen.se/dahlqvistannika/?anchor=my_lowcarb_dietary_programe_in

If you can find a diet buddy, it would be worth giving it a try. There's nothing that encourages you to continue like success!

If you do need to go to a class, my sister has used Slimming World. She's been reasonably successful with it although she's reached a plateau and just can't lose any more weight.

It's quite easy actually, I'd never felt so healthy, and the weight loss was incredible. Yes you need to get the medical say so and yes, you need to stick to it but for me, it gave me the kick start for a healthier life. You also need to drink 4 litres of water spread over the day and I and nobody in my group suffered from any negative effects once we came off the diet.

It's one option out of millions that are out there, it's all about portion control and calories, try the Rosemary Conley portion pots.

i need some support to help me lose weight as I don’t have the enthusiasm or confidence to do it alone so I was thinking of joining somewhere like weightwatchers but not sure which is the best company to join

what I don’t want is long lectures about diets or sales people encouraging me to spend money which I can’t afford on there products

i’ve tried places like the gym and walking but being a defeatist I soon gave up.

if it hwlps i'm a 50 year old male but i’m the type who needs someone stood behind me pushing me rather than someone just giving advice as and when

    any suggestions please

    Hey!
I would say- move more, eat better- I agree with the gym - I got so fed up and never returned to one- find an activity that you enjoy (cycling, walking, even gardening- I love my yoga and swimming and that keeps me trim) and plan your meals around vegetables and pulses. Don't cut out any food group and have some fat (olive oil is best)- I am from mediterranean Europe and we don't have the weight problems people tend to have here, and I firmly believe is because we eat at the table meals cooked from scratch and crammed with vegetables , pulses and fish. My sister in law lost a lot of weight and after a baby and a serious back problem that kept her in bed for months by eating very well and having two courses in both lunch and dinner... if you want, I can give you some suggestions and 'design' you a menu...and I can guarantee you it will be yummy (but you need to stick to portions, ok??)
  • ps- I don't belive in spending money on magic products either- nothing can beat good, honest healthy eating...for real, no shakes or stuff like that
