Anyone with direct debits should try to get them recalled ( if they came out in the last 2 days ) or claim under the direct debit indemnity scheme
If payment was taken by credit/debit card I would try to get a refund under chargeback
I wouldn't waste my time trying to speak to these muppets - try going through your bank
And don't forget to cancel setanta Hibernia direct debit
Hope this helps someoneBusy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0 -
Rang 9am. Got through instantly. Faints in shock.
Got a newbie who was very helpful. He did admit he was only there a week or so. But looked up everything he could. God love him I don't think Customer Service training have got their full claws into his little brain yet.
Told me I did indeed cancel end of June. And it was on their system, and guess what?!! He told me they actuallt OWED me £19.00.
But whilst I was doing that my other half noticed the £9.99 payment on his statement. He immediately went to the bank (who said they'd been having ex-Setatna vustomers in all day complaining) who also said they cant understand how a DD in another name can start without consent.
Safe to say we'll keep an eye on it.
Sod the £9.99 refund. All I want is confirmation that NO more will come out..and it is concluded, finito, done, nadda, zip, zilch!! LOL;)0 -

Same here, it would probably cost more to chase it up through phone calls to 0871 numbers, letters to Luxembourg. Just some confirmation that it is over :j0 -
That's it. I don't want £9.99. I don't wanna spend £10 ringing 0871 numbers claiming £9.99 back.
Tis better to just get notice of final conclusion. Yes it's not right that they took it. And yes I understand there is principle about getting it back and not letting them have it.
But in the big sceme of things. Tis better they get NO more off us.
We may have canceled back in June, either DD only, or emailed or wrote recorded letters. But I doubt they can reinstate the DD again if we are canceling this Setanta Hibernian S.A.R.L Direct debit. This newer DD name/company whatever.
Tis better to sign off on canceling a Direct Debit in your actual bank, rather than doing the telephone/internet banking to be honest. But I suppose not everyone is near their bank.
But what urks me is...the banks feel this is wrong what Setanta is doing.
I dont care if Setanta says: "It was the England, Wales & Scotland division that went into admin."
Screw that....if we were under the umbrella of Setanta Ireland....they better check their maps...cos we're UK and should be treated so....geography...plus the fact no northener ever got full IRISH viewing. We are, as usual neither treated well by a Irish or GB company. In Limbo in the middle.
But these guys are the worst.0 -
To successfully cancel just phone the number on the letter (or the Setanta ROI customer services number if you didnt get a letter - like me) and state that you have just recieved the letter (make sure you do this whether you got one or not), you have cancelled the direct debit with your bank and wish to cancel the subscription to Setanta with immediate effect.
The letter has no date and no meaningful reference number so they will ask for your postcode.
I would also note the time of the call and the customer reps first name and employee number (you wont get their surname). They appear to be under instructions to waive any 30 day period provided you have recieved the letter but not otherwise.
If they have taken money from you then claim it back from your bank using the direct debit indemnity method and advise Setanta that you will not be paying any further money.
Confirm this in writing to Richard Sweeney whose name is on the letter which is meant to issue to all NI customers / previous customers - along with the time of call and the customer rep name and employee number. This cheap shot letter is an attempt to offer you a new service and you should plainly state that you do not want to avail of this offer - they probably know that loads of people will slip through the net and keep on paying the 9.99 without realising.
When I phoned they immediately cancelled my subscrition and waivered the 30 day nonsense.0 -
I discovered £9.99 taken from my account on 24/09, I immediatley emailed them as I have had no contact or dealings with them since 22/06 when I cancelled my account and DD. I pointed out that I had not asked for the service to be reinstated and that this had been done totally on their part without any contact between us. I also informed them that this new DD had been cancelled and I did not want their services ever again.
The next day I rang Setanta and after being on hold for 5minutes hung up and called my bank. Barclays assured me that what had happened was illegal, as this is not the same DD I originally had, and immediately refunded the money on my account and put a block on it to prevent further payments being taken.
I still have had no contact whatsoever from Setanta and the channels are still on!:mad:0 -
Just to let you know.
Upon calling Setanta the two channels us Northerners get Setanta Sports 1 and Setanta Ireland...are now off, and blue screened with the usual subscribe on this number rubbish.
Those channels did linger since June. But you can be sure as hell there was nothing on there to watch of any interest. As we have has ESPN.
I will keep and eye to see if any more £9.99's or anything come out.
Did make a note of date and time of call. But rep didnt give me his name or caller ID. And I doubt if writing to the dude on the letter is going to do anything.
But I guess it cant hurt to do THAT can it?0 -
Well I cancelled the direct debit I never set up in the first place(Setanta Hibernian)??????? and wrote a letter to the address on the letter they sent and I have also just written to my building society regarding the payment taken by the muppets Setanta Hibernian, and will post it this morning. I never heard the like of the cheek this crew have, and so many folk are being ripped off it seems going by what we have heard and reading all the posts on here. I am so glad that I can check my bank account online otherwise we could have been ripped off even further. How dare they treat people like this. I am also so glad I can go onto this wonderful site and learn useful stuff from so many people.:)Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Thank you all so much for posting about this topic - I hadnt the first idea how to go about getting my money back.
I am with the Halifax, so I called in the other day and was told that I couldnt claim the money back through the DD indemnity scheme because it was under £10.
Someone I know got their money back through their bank, so I went back today and told them this. They still said that they couldnt give me the money back and that I would have to contact Setanta - which I know is very difficult - so I kept at them.
Eventually they admitted that it could be done as a write off - so I now have my money back.
All I have to do now is contact Setanta who have set this Direct Debit up without my authority - I dont want to go through all of this next month.0 -
on checking my bank account online on friday i noticed a new direct debit payment for setanta hib. and a payment for £9.99 taken out.when setanta went off the air in june i cancelled my direct debit with them. i phoned barclays and was told that they would pay the £9.99 back into my account, as i was covered by the direct debit guarantee, and claim the money from setanta. the money was back in my account this morning.0
