Her finding this site with a picture of the ring on it seems like the least of your problems.

If you are on about the deleting history thing , I've always done that even when I lived on my own and was the only one using the laptop. Helps the thing run quicker for a start.

Nothing to do with trust at all.

If your girlfriend sees this thread, whether or not it has a picture of the ring on it will be immaterial. She'll know you plan to propose, how you might be planning to do it, when you might be planning to do it, how much the ring is worth, how much you paid for it, who you got it from, etc etc etc

    Those problems.

what makes you think she's stalkerish and untrusting enough to actually check the history anyway?

  • Going back to the resizing conversation. Just something to bear in mind for any boys out there planning on proposing. A ring with a tension setting can't be resized.

These are settings where the ring is machine made to hold the diamond in place under tension. If you break the band for resizing, you lose the tension. If you do ever need to resize, you pretty much have to have the band re-made at a decent jeweller's.

H2B and I picked my ring together and it's this style. I took the one in the shop away to wear and show off, while they ordered one in in my correct size (took about 2 weeks). I then just went in and swapped them over; no one knew the difference. :)

Mine looks pretty much like this one, except the band is yellow gold:

But they can do some very cool things with tension settings:

And going back to the value of the ring. Carat is only half the story. Price is dramatically affected by the colour and clarity of the diamond. We were looking at half carat diamonds and saw rings ranging from under £1k up to £5k for a flawless one.

How do I know if it's got a tension setting?

I've already taken it into a couple of jewellers who had a look and told me they could resize it for £11.

As for the history thing, I haven't said she is stalkerish. I said I have always deleted History once or twice a week as there is no need for it plus it slows up the laptop.

    Zzzz
