Ah just seen a tension set ring is where the the diamond is held together. I actually like the look of the ring you posted but I've always been advised not to get and engagement ring that's too modern looking. Why that is I don't know
  • You should always go for a more classic style because a modern ring might date, and the engagement ring will be worn for many years.

I just got the example pics from a google image search so I'm afraid I have no idea!

Bound to be a good choice in Hatton Garden or similar jewellery quarters.

I wanted something really classic that wouldn't date. I have a plain yellow gold 18ct band. Then, there is a white gold v-shaped bit which the diamond is gripped by.

All the others I tried on were yellow gold band, single diamond in the usual claw setting. It's just the setting that makes mine different and I fell in love with it because it shows the diamond off so beautifully. :)

This is the closest pic I can find to mine (which isn't Tiffany's lol):

Except the white gold setting doesn't overlap the top of the diamond (as it's tension-set), and like I said is v-shaped when viewed from the side.

How do I know if it's got a tension setting?

I've already taken it into a couple of jewellers who had a look and told me they could resize it for £11.

Don't worry ironman - the jewellers would have known if it was and told you (plus you would have been told when you bought it).

Just pointing out for any other men looking for ideas/things to consider. :)

Good luck with the proposal. Don't stress about making it a huge deal. I always thought I wanted some 'event' proposal. It ended up happening while we were out on a walk by the sea and we were just talking about the future. OH hadn't planned to do it then - he said he'd been trying to come up with the best way to do it for months. :) The emotion of the moment is so overwhelming that the events surrounding it don't matter anywhere near as much as I thought. :)
