Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 11th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who lost someone in the Twin Towers eight years ago.
Welcome back Burp!
Lillibet - Oh gosh hon - I hope the cottage is still your dream cottage.
Lesley - I think you were MIA when I posted the link to my fence photos, and they show the trees in my garden that you were asking about when I had them lopped, so HERE is the link again. (and you can drool at my biggest pepper plant HERE) :o:p
Nic1 - that is pretty much how I remember my jury duty. We had four days of that and also no windows!
Ivy - Glad the iron tablets are working for you hon! We put peppers in our spanish omelettes as a matter of course really as we always have them in the fridge. In fact we throw in just about anything that is lurking there.. :rotfl:
Sistercas - I think you are very wise to avoid the tamiflu and hope that your daughters feel better soon.
Sunny hon - Happy Anniversary for yesterday hon!
My friend goes in to have her lump and lymph nodes removed today - she is leaving the house at 0700 to get to the hospital early so I have strict instructions to ring her at 0600 to try and keep her calm.
Well I managed to make the corned beef pasties yesterday.. used 2/3 of a tin corned beef this time with potato, onion and peppers and have a huge bowl of the mixture left and will use that to make a great big spanish omelette tomorrow. AND we both had a round of corned beef sandwiches for lunch so one tin will have made 4 main meals for two and a lunch. On days like this I feel like a real money saver... lol. Especially as the peppers and onion came from the garden and the potatoes were left over's from the night before. I know it isn't much but I love days when we can eat so well and feel virtuous too! It has taken me a long time to persuade my OH that we can do that as he used to feel deprived if there wasn't at least half a cow on his plate.
Well, just had two lovely sunny days so hoping today will be similar, even if I can't get outside. Have to make a couple of cards today too. Or at least start..
Hope you all have a good day. Warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

You're up early, MSD! I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep but I'll be cream-crackered by mid-morning, I expect! Love the photos, by the way. The fence looks great.

Will call back later - need another cuppa!

  • I am normally up and about by 0330 if I am hoping to meet up with Tris but I don't often post the thread this early you are right!

I am having a cup of redbush tea which is my absolute favourite! Hope you have a big pot of coffee on the go over there.

I usually go for a mid morning nap to make up for getting up so early too. So how is the newest addition to the family getting along, is she waving to you on cam yet? :rotfl:(her first word will be 'skype'!)

Hi MSD - I've had a cup of tea and cup of coffee so far. The baby is doing really well - not quite waving at me on Skype yet but I'm sure it won't long. I bet I'll end up being called Skype Nanny or something! I will definitely be having mid-morning (and possibly a mid-afternoon) nap today! Good luck to your friend today.

  • Good Morning MSD! I'm chatting over the fence/Atlantic ocean and it's 10:30 p.m here so you must be a really early riser;-). Your garden is wonderful and the asiatic? lilies gorgeous! I'm a garden fanatic who longs for your temperate climate. My mom and I once visited England and have an entire album of just the great little gardens we saw along the way. One day the dream is to do a "Tour of England's Greatest Gardens" that I sometimes see advertised in magazines. For now I content myself with curling up to Rosemary Verey's Making of a Garden at night.

Your thread of a daily frugal idea is great. Mine for the day is to shop some fun garage sales, but not buy anything I don't need.....temptations, temptations:rolleyes:

Frugal - Night night!! Good morning everyone else! I'm off to play with DS playgroup this morning. Couldn't really say that August or September have been OS as we've just moved back to the UK and came back with totally bare cupboards. Now the freezer and cupboards are stocked all I have to do is remember to take things out of the freezer in the morning to eat that evening.

Last night I forgot, so managed to make pesto sauce, salad and bread for tea - all home made so felt really proud - specially when the kids ate it too.

Bread maker is on, dogs are up (not fed or walked yet) and DS1 is up and glued to TV! Just have Washer to put on as it is apparently going to be a nice day!

Have a lovely Day everyone - remember it's Friday - and have a great weekend!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all :)

Wow - you guys are early this morning! :) I'm at work and just about to start the morning ritual of feeding my cells :) Temperemental little things :rotfl: My boss is away today.

MSD - that's great you stretched the corned beef so far :) I love the stuff but we don't have it very often.
Mioliere - glad the LO is doing so well :)
Welcome frugal millionairess :) If you do come across the pond again at some point - this a definate garden to visit :)http://www.heligan.com/flash_intro.html
esmf - you've been busy! well done for creating dinner at such short notice yesterday - that's a great skill to have :)

Not much planned today, I have to go and post my parcel in a second - having discovered the delights of on-line postage :)

We have a visitor from Oz coming at the end of the month now - he was an ex-student of ours and we haven't seen him for a bit. He has travelled all over the world in the past few years so should have a few stories for us.

I bought some buttons (I know, I know - but they were so shiny), a latch hook and some string in a charity shop yesterday and made some more mini-chocolate earrings yesterday. I treated myself to some lovely local cheese yesterday - like camembert but soaked in honey and mead, so I have that for lunch again. I am sure I am going to get complaints because the fridge smells a little fruity though :)

Don't know what dinner will be yet, not planning that far ahead.

Coffee calls! Have a good day all, cel x

  • Morning everyone.
I thought I got up fairly early but MSD Mioliere have me beat hands down. At least I had a lie in til 6am this morning :D
Have my mindee coming today so not much in the way of OS going on here. If I get chance to I will hang out some washing but other than that it will be keeping mindee entertained. Might head off to a playgroup session this morning (eek this will be my first outing with her) and I have to do a risk assessment and make sure the kids will be safe. Have a double buggy and a buggy board......hmmmmmm can I actually push 3 kids without doing myself an injury?!!!
Anyway the kids have got pork cooked in SC for lunch, I will probably have pizza and chips as H is working late tonight so will have something quick and easy.
Have advertised some baby stuff in my local paper. IF I manage to sell them I might start a remoska fund and put it towards that ;)

Right going to head off and have a nose at the thread from yesterday.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

  • Morning you early birds

MSD - cant believe it was 8 years ago - still remember watching the news like it was yesterday. Yes, we should all spare a minute today thinking, makes our daily moans and groans very trivial.

Not so chilly here this morning feeling very blocked up but DS is as well so think its hayfever. Kids are dropping out of DD's year at school at a rate of knots (think that is the saying) with flu.

Today am getting some essential stuff in the office done then out to lunch with a friend. Want to get 1 load of washing done but the ironing pile hasnt reduced yet - keep getting waylaid.

Pleased with myself yesterday picked up a brochure from a mobile hairdresser & she is coming to cut and colour my hair on Monday at less than 50% of what I normaly pay - I have tried but I just cant dye my hair myself. So hopefully she will be good & it will become a normal thing.

Need to get on with packed lunches in a mo, have a great Fridayx :j

My thoughts are also with those who lost someone in 9/11

    Morning all,

Another nice day here :T, i did a big wash last night, and its been on the line ever since, I will leave it out today and get it in after work, I must say i am enjoying this weather, although last night for the first time I had to put a jumper on in the evening.

Work again today, but then its the weekend :T, hm pizza for tea, with salad. OH and I have corned beef and mustard sandwiches for lunch with crisps and fruit, dd has roasted veg and cous cous, a hm cake, and an apple.

DD has had a letter from school re the cervical cancer jab, she is not keen on having it, but I think its important that she does, anyone elses dd had it yet ???

Need to have a tidy round before work, and will do another wash tonight.

    Have fun all xx

Essex-Girl - you're right about 9/11. Puts the little moans into perspective, doesn't it? We had just got back from a holiday in Spain, put the TV on and couldn't believe the dreadful pictures we were seeing.

RedRuby - I don't have daughters but if I did, I would want them to have the jab. I know I will want my granddaughters to have it when the time comes. I haven't heard any bad reports about the jab at all.

Well, despite the early morning wake-up, I seem to be accomplishing a lot. I think psychologically I am getting through the chores so that I can have a doze! I've changed the sheets, put the BM and the WM on, cleaned the bathroom, cleared up the breakfast things, and I just have to prep for dinner (roast chicken, roast pots, mushrooms, courgettes and gravy) then I'm done, hopefully.

I hope all those with the flu and other illnesses get better soon.
