Don't talk to me about blooming watches....ex hubby decided he wanted this gloriously expensive (£1600 or thereabouts) Omega watch prior to his 40th. I told him to ask for money for his birthday plus use some of his get to keep bonus as a deposit.
Well, he went to put the deposit down on it but then went and took finance out on the whole blooming amount..oh and then blew the deposit money on well....nothing really.
I was not amused, I could not see (and still can't see) the point in spending over a grand on a bloody watch, it tells the time..nothing more.
Oh and then I got the blame when he missed one of the payments when he left...apparently, I should have told him to make the payment and then done it for him (we had seperate bank accounts by this time and I had given him a list of what direct debits he needed to set up for 'his' stuff).
So don't talk to me about blooming expensive watches.....
Couldnt disagree more. Men don't spend money on jewellry generally, so a good watch is a must. With a good watch and decent shoes, you can do anything in life (or anyone).
Saying you shouldn't spend a lot of money on a watch because it only tells the time is illogical. What does a diamond ring do? Or earrings? Or a necklace?
I always sneak a peak at people's watches when I meet them . . . it tells me all I need to know about them.0 -
Some good news at last. well done Max, really pleased for you x.
Is it bad that I don't have a watch? My phone has got a clock on it so I look at that sometimes.
I've got my alarm set on my phone for the morning, I've got it down to the minute of how long it takes me to get ready in the morning, leave home no later than 6.22am and I'm in work with a few minutes to spare.
As long as I'm not late for work (or make someone else late for something important) the rest of the week I work to 'Geeves Mean Time'. I get there where I get there.0 -

Lol, I don't waste money on those items either!
To spend oodles of money on a watch is illogical when there are far more better things to spend it on...like food or housing or just a better life.
It is merely a show off piece, all it tells me is that the person likes to waste money and is a bit of a show off.
I use my mobile for the time...haven't worn a watch in years (and when I did they were the cheap £2.99 ones) but I am never late for anything as being on time is very important to me.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Many congrats Max. That's absolutely brilliant news!!!!
I've been following the blog since the beginning and it's been a roller coaster for you so it's fantastic to see it reach such a great conclusion. Do keep up the writing though - it's very entertaining :-)I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
Does this mean he won't be selling his house and watch for 10p to the quickest MSE bidder? Boo!0

Precisely. Someone once wisely observed that you could be walking on a beach in nothing more than shorts and flip flops, but if you're wearing a proper watch you're still properly dressed.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Yes, go and buy one at once. And a proper mechanical one at that, non of this quartz nonsense. Sue, life is illogical. But if it gives pleasure it's worth living surely?
We all get pleasure from many different things, and for some of us one of those things is a beautiful wonderfully crafted precision instrument, a little perpetual engine on our wrist. A thing to marvel and appreciate. For us an expensive quality watch is an investment worth making, provided it's affordable of course (clearly in your ex's case it wasn't if he had to finance it).
For you it may not be but that doesn't (necessarily) make us wrong.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
