seat61 is FAB. I think I said I once got the orient express from Paris to Vienna for £25 :j :j Pretty basic accommodation (ordinary train carriage, but with lie back seats, kind of like low tech dentists chairs :rotfl:) - but got a proper sleeping compartment (and tea and croissants for breakfast!) on the way back for £125 - gosh it was exciting
Oh thats another one for my list, along with Trans Siberian, but unless you have silly money the Trans Siberian is pretty basic.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

I think there's another railway that goes through Siberia, the one the locals use I think - remember reading a book by Dervla Murphy who travelled on it and loved it (she was quite old at the time I think?) Will have a root round and find out - BAM possibly? No idea what it stands for!0

Morning KC
definitely got travel envy today, but also in hibernate mode; so would like to travel, but need someone to magically get me to the first point, be that an airport or a train station. It's the leaving the house that's a problem in this weather.
Have a good day.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Morning. This will sound a bit weird but I never get travel envy because I just love hearing about peoples plans, reading about new places and planning where I might go. Half of the fun is the planning and organising. And I have been planning all my life to go to Japan, probably never make it there but hey it is nice to dream.
I also want to go to the Copper Canyon in Mexico via a very long train journey.
Keep up the talk of travel it is right cheering me up.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Morning Karma, how are you today?
Must have a look at Seat 61..
I do love train journeys - BAM looks amazing. Mind you the bathrooms on the Basel-Prague overnight one didn't fit with any preconceptions of 'lovely romantic long-distance train travel' :eek:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Morning! Oh dear, I thought they'd sorted the bathroom problems on trains these days - I well remember retching for days on my first train trip to Greece :rotfl:
I'm glad everyone likes the travel ideas - I absolutely love them :j its not *painful* envy, its fun envy :j Japan - now there's a country to go to! A friend of mine went a few years ago, she got cheap travel while her daughter worked for BA, it was boggling. And I've watched the Top Gear boys there too, of course
That BAM line looks fantastic - could use that, then pop down to Japan from the end - on the bottom right of the map, there's a little arrow leading to Korea - its definitely in that part of the world!
Well, to matters mundane - the decorator is here again, I'm off to London to work, just after lunch (I was dumb in booking my rail tickets, I'm paying at least a fiver more than I shouldbad KC ), and I've done a fair bit more of my accounts - not having a flat surface really is a bit of a handicap
I've also finished Virgin bingo forever - I got really bored with the veebie thing, so I played with one of the scratchcards, and then got bored with that, so just threw away a whole 60p on some bingo. Glad to see the back of it, to be honest.
Off for a canter around the boards.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
