Do you know, as I typed that, I was half thinking about fresh tools, you're absolutely right.

  • Sounds like you've been very positive and focussed today KC. you should definitely try growing stuff indoors, mung beans are easy, cress, basil (although I always manage to kill it!) I don't have a garden but managed to grow salad stuff in pots this summer.

Can I ask where you put them, gill? Windowsills all seem to have those pesky things curtains :)

  • mine were in a corner of the kitchen, on the worktop, next to a window. I don't have curtains on kitchen window, just blinds. I've also got a sort of shelf that goes across the window - hard to explain. Its so nice to be able to just pick stuff and chuck it in the pan.

I'll have a think about that, thanks. My kitchen will also have a blind, not a curtain. It faces directly west, is painted white, so even on the table across the room, something would probably get enough light to do it good. And I *think* I know what you mean about a shelf across the window - I've seen that in some home mags.

Good morning, I'd like a shelf across the window in the kitchen. Although our new kitchen is about 3 times bigger than our old galley one, there is about half the storage and workspace here.
We won't be getting a new kitchen for a long while yet, but I'm already thinking how the space could be better utilised.

As for blinds - I'm hankering after plantation shutters *sigh* (DH said I can keep dreaming!)

Have a good day all :)
  • Morning - I hope you get somewhere with the tools that let you potter about in the garden - good luck with the shelf - I'm currently trying to put blinds up (only fleece ones) empty cupboards and find my camera charger!

macgirl - thats pretty much my situation, certainly until I can get the pantry up and running. Hope you can find a solution - I've found that the little stuff adds up, just like dfw - a jug where the bottles go can hold the greaseproof paper and cooking foil and whatnot, the spice rack is up on the wall, the dvd tower for extra storage has arrived, tho I haven't had the energy to put it together yet, the little shelves flanking the range cooker are in business, and the pantry shelves are nearly sorted - the last one is proving really difficult, and again I don't have the energy to do anything about it.

Pippi - I'm not looking for those yet, tho they really would be valuable - I swore when I moved here I wouldn't buy *anything* until I was ready to use it, and I'm sticking to that. I have just ordered another supermarket shop, and included lots of anti arthritis foods - ginger, water filters, berries, can't remember what else. I'm off to bed for a rest right now - I hope you find your camera charger, you're in EH's challenge!

I stood in the middle of the house this morning, thinking what I should do while I had some energy, and realised that what I really wanted was to get the kitchen storage sorted, thats what would please me most. So thats what I'm focussing on this weekend, but at some stage I will do some rhodedendron pruning.

KC - I think that's a good idea; concentrate on what would make you happiest, and if getting your kitchen the way you want it is what works, then focus on that. Its also the sort of thing you can do in little stints.
My sister *hates* my kitchen, she is a fan of fitted kitchens with everything behind cupboards or in drawers, but I have some big earthenware pots that were my nan's that I keep utensils in, and another one for foil etc. I like things to be available.

IIRC, Pepe found chilli oil useful for rubbing into his joints - you may want to PM him and get the low down.
