Thanks Seaxwyn! Its mad, isn't it? Only a few years ago, I was going to have her live with me to look after her, and she could rent her house out to provide additional income for her - and now *she's* helping *me*. Mad. But its a lovely thing she's done for me.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

What lovely posts to come back to this evening! Thank you all, it means a lot that people are accepting of this, it feels very liberating in one way, but a bit odd in another, as I said.
Permaculture - yes, El, I was a member of the Permaculture Society for a while - still got quite a few books about it **hops off to the bookcase** - I have several about alternative gardening - solar greenhouses, loving your weeds, but especially about permaculture I have The Permaculture Plot, Forest Gardening, Urban Permaculture and The Permaculture Way! You must be into that big time with what you're doing?
I remember one of these books talked about zoning in the house in the same way as zoning in a permaculture plot - keeping a stash of tools in various places throughout the house. I actually tried it too, and it was dreadful, one of the causes of my overpurchasingif you can't remember where the screwdriver is, after two days you're going to buy another one. And so it goes
What's happening in particular at your end? Is there any news on the project that came to such a terrible halt?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
nothing new on the project ... they are waiting to hear from the insurance first before they decide if they will try again ... no one has been charged but it is officially arson now ...
i am getting into this permaculture idea and wanting to try it out ... so if you dont mind sharing some ideas??
i dont think i am into some of it though ... some bits i am like ... oh come one lets get real here lol ... but other things i am like yeah i can try this out ... polyculture specifically sounds good0 -
I like the combination of permanent and agriculture .... as far as I'm aware, its about maximum use of closed systems - using every byproduct of an activity - e.g. if you buy half a dozen eggs, you eat the eggs, save the shells for the garden, and recycle the cardboard of the container (or preferably use it for chitting potatoes or growing seedlings or something). About efficiency - if you use sage and chives, plant them nearest to your back door - and about maximum use of every area, which means using all the plant storeys available.....
I used to love reading about it, but I've never been able to actually put it into practice correctly.... what are your thoughts at the mo?2023: the year I get to buy a car0
